~ Alistair Ryle during his drunken rant. |
Alistair Ryle is an antagonist in the 2014 British drama film The Riot Club. He is a first-year history student whose brother, Sebastian, was considered a "legendary" member of the Riot Club. Alistair is politically right, leading to intense conflict and rivalry with Miles. Alistair attended Harrow School, unlike his brother, who attended Eton.
He was portrayed by Sam Claflin, who also portrayed Alexander Brock in Charlie's Angels, Lieutenant Hawkins in The Nightingale, and Oswald Mosley in Peaky Blinders.
Biography[]
The Dinner[]
Having been barred from most establishments in Oxford, Alistair and his Riot Club followers have their annual dinner at the function room in a country pub, where he and the gang's raucous behaviour annoys other patrons though they reimburse Chris, the landlord of the pub.
After hiring a prostitute who refuses to perform group oral sex, the dastardly Alistair takes Miles' phone and texts his girlfriend Lauren without Miles knowing, whom they proposition to Miles' disgust. Getting progressively more drunk and ingesting drugs, they start to wreck the room, and when Chris comes to confront them, Alistair punches him followed by the others who viciously attack him, sending him to hospital. Miles ends the carnage, by calling for an ambulance.
Downfall[]
Alistair and the boys are all arrested but believing that their club is more important than the individuals, he along with the others agree not to give statements and go on to suggest that Miles, since he was the newest club member, should take the blame for the attack on Chris. But Alistair's skin is then found underneath Chris' fingernails, meaning they can arrest and charge him for assault. When two police officers arrive at Oxford, they take Alistair away, leaving him broken and trainwrecked.
