“ | This world is in ruins, this Invincible's reputation is destroyed. The people here will always hate and fear him because of what you've done. | „ |
~ Angstrom Levy in the aftermath of the Invincible War. |
“ | Remember that world changing battle with Omni-Man and Invincible a month ago? In most other dimensions, they teamed up and took over the planet. | „ |
~ Angstrom Levy explaining the Evil Invincibles to the Mauler Twins |
The Alternate Mark Graysons are major antagonists in Invincible and minor antagonists in the second season of its animated adaption of the same name.
They are 16 evil alternate versions of the heroic Mark Grayson/Invincible, who had all fallen into villainy and became allegied with the Viltrum Empire following a wide variety of reasons: most typically related to Omni-Man or Atom Eve. Later down their life, they were approached by Angstrom Levy to ruin the reputation of his home universe's Invincible in exchange of spreading their empires all over the multiverse.
Naturally, Levy didn't fulfill his end of the deal and stranded the surviving Invincibles into a wasteland dimension, where most of them would meet their doom at each other's hands no less. Meanwhile, the Invincibles who had died on the mainstream universe were turned into ReAnimen by D.A. Sinclair and the GDA to help protect the world.
In the show, they are voiced by Steven Yeun, who also played A. Traveler in The Twilight Zone, Ricky "Jupe" Park in Nope and Danny Cho in Beef.
Biography[]
Background[]
A common attribute among with most Mark Graysons is that they join along side with their father, to conquer earth for the Viltrum Empire. According to Angstrom Levy, this is due to a variety of reasons, ranging from mundane things like universes where morality is inverted, to more complex reasons, such as Omni-Man and the Viltrumites taking another approach on Earthtly occupation and even the death of their respective Atom Eves.
In the TV continuity, commonly they're responsible for Angstrom Levy's origins as their tyrannical rules and sadism murder countless loves one of Angstrom throughout the universe, leading Angstrom to reflect his trauma upon one of the only versions of Mark Grayson who chooses to become a hero.
Months after a near death experience following a mortiferous battle with the mainstream Invincible, Angstrom hatches a plan to fully ruin his reputation as payback for horrendously deforming him beyond recognition not once, but twice. He would look for evil versions of Invincible all across the multiverse, then recruit them to wreck the mainstream universe under the false promise of helping them expand their empire across the dimensions.
Invincible War[]
At least 16 of the Marks Levy had approached accepted his offer. The group waited in Levy's headquarters in his doctor's dimension as he spied on the mainstream Mark through his drones, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. After days of waiting, Levy finally gave the Marks the order to commence the invasion.
In just the very first day of the world-wide invasion, dubbed the Invincible War, the Alternate Marks split: some of them attacked Chicago in seek to somewhat please their personal vendettas in this new dimension that they couldn't achieve in their own, meanwhile some others took it upon themselves to attack the rest of the world, even coming face to face with the world's mightiest heroes and beyond after Cecil had called every superhero in the planet to respond to the threat.
The second day came with heavy losses in both sides of the War, including the likes of Rex Splode and Darkwing II in the side of humanity and Omni-Mark and Veiled Mark on the side of the Marks, however, despite their diminished numbers in comparison with Earth's forces, the Invincibles were still winning against humanity by a landslide. By this point in time, they had already leveled several major cities, with more in the way.
By the third day, only 8 Evil Invincibles remained alive. After completely demolishing several major cities all over the world, including New York, Moscow, and Paris, Levy concludes the first phase of his plan and calls for an immediate regroup over the Grayson's house. After giving the surviving Marks the final request to bring them the mainstream Invincible, they refuse, arguing that they had already done everything on their end of the deal and that he needed to pay out for his reckless plan, which had reduced their numbers in half. Levy replies in disappointment, and uses his drones to push the remaining Marks through his portals, stranding them in the Wasteland dimension.
Aftermath[]
Those Marks who had died during the Invincible War had their bodies reused by the GDA into a stronger, more powerful version of the ReAnimen by D.A. Sinclair. Given their Viltrumite physiology, it was way more difficult to perform the required surgeries and cyborgization processes on them, so they were never major players in any operation.
Meanwhile, the Stranded Marks had eventually become too desperate to find a way out, with one of them in specific proposing that, in order to survive, they shouldn't help each other but instead eat each other, to let the strongest one survive. The rest begrudgingly agreed to this proposal, and eventually they all ate each other except for two, Sinister Mark and Mohawk Mark. Eventually, they were both killed, leaving all members of the Evil Invincibles dead.

Trivia[]
- Despite being established to be just 16, plenty more Evil Invincibles make act of presence in issues following the Invincible War. This is likely a mistake by the colorists and/or artists.
- When the 8 surviving Marks are sent to the Wasteland dimension, it is described by Mohawk Mark that "the first one" was a jerk and got eaten first. It is unclear which alternate Mark this "first one" could be.
