Alzen

Alzen is the main antagonist of the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Scientific Method".

Biography[]

Alzen was one of a group of aliens who secretly infiltrated Voyager in order to experiment on the crew. They existed out of phase with the rest of the ship, rendering them invisible. They fitted the crew with tags which stimulated their bodies in different ways, changing their DNA and causing physical or behavioral changes.

After the holographic Doctor discovered the truth and reprogrammed Seven of Nine's cortical node so she could also see the aliens, Seven exposed the experiment to the rest of the crew by shooting Alzen with a phaser that brought her back into phase, holding her hostage to prevent the rest of the aliens intervening. Seven and Lieutenant Commander Tuvok then imprisoned Alzen in Voyager's brig.

Alzen was visited by Captain Janeway and initially refused to talk to her, saying it was against their protocol. She eventually revealed they were scientists conducting medical research, arguing that the work they were doing saved and prolonged the lives of many of their people and considering the sacrifice worth it. She also praised Janeway for her self-control, noting they had been increasing her dopamine and aggression. She dismissed Voyager's attempts to disable the tags and refused to shut down the experiments. She suggested that if Janeway co-operated, fatalities would be kept to a minimum (although there would be so deformities) and Voyager would be provided with a copy of the results of the experiment. If not, everyone on Voyager would be eliminated.

It is unclear what happened to Alzen after Janeway drove the rest of the aliens from Voyager.
