I am pleased to report that, after a struggle... we finally managed to capture our quarry.
~ Amakusa Shiro reporting to Ode Iou about successful capture of the Prisoner.
Amakusa Shiro: O holy God, boundless in your mercy... I implore you... <chuckle> Now, now. Just where do you think you're going? Your place is here. This I know. I know too why you've come. Whom you seek. Alas, your fate is to fail. And why, you ask? <chuckle> Because a wicked shinobi such as you will never triumph over the righteous blessed!
Oboromaru: I'll cut you down all the same.
Amakusa Shiro: <chuckle> Did I not tell you before that I am immortal? Now, do settle down. Before you do something you truly regret.
~ Amakusa Shiro preventing Oboromaru's escape and taunting him about his immortality.
Hmph. Willful child... I had hoped your mind might be as sharp as your blade. But it's clear you're more a fool than I foresaw. Very well... Then I, Amakusa Shiro... shall deliver you from this mortal realm unto God's grace! You will repent.
~ Amakusa Shiro if Oboromaru will insist on fighting him.

Amakusa Shiro is a major antagonist from Twilight of Edo Japan chapter of Live A Live. He is one of the many supernatural beings who were summoned by Ode Iou to protect his castle as he prepares to overthrow the Tokugawa shogunate and plunge Japan in the new era of never-ending war.

He was voiced by Akira Ishida in Japanese and Eric Yang in English.

Biography[]

A priest in life who died at the hands of Tokugawa shogunate, Amakusa Shiro was brought back to mortal realm by Ode Iou, a power-hungry ruler of the Ode clan, as one of the many supernatural beings he formed pacts with. Along with Yodogimi and Puppetmaster Gennai, he assists him in trying to overthrow the Tokugawa shogunate and become the new ruler of Japan, also helping him with kidnapping Ryoma Sakamoto to prevent him from stopping the impending era of war. Amakusa Shiro also defended Ode Castle by taking control of the restless souls that dwell within the castle.

Once Oboromaru was sent by the Enma clan to rescue the prisoner and put an end to Ode Iou's plans, should he go directly to the prisoner's cell, he'll fall through the floor and end up in the dungeon's charnel pit, surrounded by the lost souls. Should Oboromaru try to escape, and Amakusa Shiro will block the way, taunting him that he'll never escape the cell since he's immortal. True to his words, no matter how much Oboromaru will attack him, as long as the Lost Souls are still around in the cell, he'll simply revive himself with their energy. However, once Oboromaru vanquishes all the Lost Souls, Amakusa Shiro loses his immortality and will become defeatable, allowing the shinobi to end him, with Amakusa Shiro spending his last moments in the mortal realm voicing his denial and disbelief over his doom before turning to dust.

This fight will be ignored in the pacifist route. His status on that route will be unknown, but it's presumed that Ryoma Sakamoto had vanquished him when escaping the cell on his own.
