Waller: See, this is why I let Livewire and the other prisoners escape. So Checkmate could see what I saw; that you were too soft to lead us.
Sam: You... You sabotaged the mission. You sabotaged me.
Waller: The problem with you is that you think those two are the same. The mission is to keep Earth safe. And if we have to lose a handful of humans to save humanity... well then, so be it.
~ Amanda Waller revealing her true colors to Sam Lane as she tells him she will sacrifice anyone to protect Earth.

General Amanda Waller is the secondary antagonist of the 2023 cartoon superhero series My Adventures with Superman.

She is a high-ranking general of Task Force X who worked alongside General Sam Lane, aiding him in his plans to eliminate Superman and keep the Earth safe from the next Zero Day, until she usurped his position as the leader, intent on running Task Force X her own way and keeping Earth safe, no matter how lives it costs.

She is voiced by Debra Wilson, who also voiced her counterparts from Batman: The Enemy Within and the Arkhamverse, as well as Terra Snapdragon in The Owl House, Crying Wolf in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Renata Glasc in League of Legends, Jormag in Guild Wars 2, and Batari in Far Cry Primal.

History[]

Past[]

Twenty-two years prior to the events of the series, Waller enlisted in the army, and became friends with a fellow recruit, Sam Lane. She and Lane were eventually stationed at a military base built to investigate a mysterious alien probe that had arrived on Earth. While the soldiers at the base were being briefed on the situation, Waller strayed away to find Lane, discovering him making a personal call in their commander's tent. Waller criticizes Lane for not paying attention to their briefing, and remarks that she won't always be around to pull him out of trouble. At that moment, the probe activates and generates a portal, allowing "Nemesis Omega" and their army of OMAC robots to invade Earth and attack the base.

Waller and Lane fought against the OMACs, but were unsuccessful in repelling them; Waller being injured, while all other soldiers at the base were eradicated by the invaders. Nemesis Omega prepares to kill Waller and Lane as well, only to be cut off by a distant explosion, which closes the portal and ends the invasion. Nemesis Omega's attack would later become known as "Zero Day" and, seeking to prevent another such event from occurring, Lane (now known as the General) founded Task Force X to counteract it. Waller joined him in this purpose, standing alongside Lane for years, and presumably contributed to many of the "hard calls" he had to make, such as the extermination of Cadmus.

Season 1[]

"Adventures of a Normal Man"[]

Waller is first seen when Leslie Willis is captured by her and Lane's operative Slade Wilson following her theft of much of Task Force X's advanced technology. She and the General observe as Leslie is tortured by Slade and questioned about her knowledge of Nemesis Omega, Zero Day, Task Force X, and Superman. Afterwards, Waller and Lane assign Slade to recover all of their stolen technology, kidnapping and imprisoning everyone in possession of it.

"You Will Believe a Man Can Lie"[]

During Superman's fight with Heat Wave, Slade contacts Waller and Lane, asking them for permission to engage his final target and "Nemesis Omega"; believing Superman to be the same being who attacked the Earth on Zero Day.

Appearing through a hologram, Waller comments that Slade's armor is operating at peak efficiency from the re-integrated technology and that there will never be a better time to take out Superman. The General agrees, and permits Slade to engage; he then requests additional support, which Waller grants. General Lane and Waller watch from afar as Slade freezes Heat Wave and engages Superman alongside two OMAC robots. During the fight, Waller comments that Superman is far weaker than they had anticipated. Superman is eventually knocked towards a highway, where Slade slices the support beams, forcing the former to disregard their fight to try and save the civilians above.

Waller encourages Slade to shoot Superman down while he is distracted; Lane refuses to allow civilians to be endangered, asking Waller to remember why they were doing this. She questions if anyone will thank him for saving a handful of lives when everyone dies on the next Zero Day, and tries to order Wilson to take the shot. General Lane interrupts Waller and reminds her of who is in charge of their operation, and tells Slade to retreat, to her frustration.

"Zero Day"[]

Some time later, Waller is present alongside Lane and Anthony Ivo when they have Livewire, Intergang and Heat Wave released from their cells. Waller observes as the villains are tortured into submission by shock collars, before the General informs them that they will now have the chance to repay their debts to society for their various crimes.

Waller and Lane subsequently use Mist to manipulate Superman into trying to rescue Task Force X's captives, who ambush and overpower him. Waller is present when Lane is forced to electrocute Ivo when he refuses to listen to his orders, and retreats with the villains and the captured Superman on Task Force X's plane. Superman is brought back to Task Force X's base, where the General tortures and interrogates him; Waller observing from behind the scenes. The General shows Superman a holographic recreation of what he and Waller experienced on Zero Day and demands to know why he is on Earth, only for Superman to express genuine horror and confusion at Nemesis Omega's actions.

The General returns to Waller, who comments on how Superman's powers have been thoroughly repressed by Ivo's inventions, and shows interest in getting more use out of the latter before he goes completely insane. The General expresses his doubts that Superman was involved in Zero Day, and that he may be innocent; Waller rejects these claims, insistent that Superman is an invader and that they should dispose of him. When the General refuses, Waller begins to suspect that his doubts are because Superman reminds him of "her", infuriating him. The General asserts that they are keeping Superman alive and following his command, not Waller's, dismissing her.

Waller obeys, but covertly disables the security cameras as she leaves. This enables Livewire to utilize her newly developed electro kinetic powers to remove her collar and free Task Force X's other captives, including Parasite, who goes on a rampage throughout Metropolis until he is defeated by Superman. In the aftermath, Waller, joined by Slade, tells the General that they have to talk about Superman. She informs him that their superiors in Checkmate and the government have become disappointed at his refusal to use lethal measures upon Superman, and that in the wake of Parasite's attack, they have relieved his command and placed her in charge of Task Force X. She then hands the General the last of Ivo's inventions, the Omega Cannon, for use in his new mission—tracking down and terminating Superman.

Season 2[]

"More Things in Heaven And Earth"[]

To be added

"Adventures with My Girlfriend"[]

Waller is shown having set up a base of Operations inside of Ryker's Island Penitentiary. Inside were several illegally kidnapped people, including Sam Lane. She attempts to reason with her now former colleague about dealing with Superman, despite his reasonings about recent events. It was at this time, Lois and Superman arrive to free Sam and most of the prisoners. The only one who didn't escape was Ivo who tried to attack Waller as she was being reprimanded by her superiors. It was here, Alex, Ivo's assistant, comes out and decides to help her, but insists he be called Lex.

"Olsen's Eleven"[]

To be added

"Pierce the Heavens, Superman!"[]

Using Superman's body, Brainiac led an invasion to Metropolis. Waller and Lex would use the Metallo drones and other members of Task Force X to defend the planet. Being that Brainiac didn't have Superman's restraint, he effortlessly tore through the army. Using the Metallo's kryptonite weaponry, Waller was able to damage both Superman and the army. However, after Lois got through to Clark, Brainiac activated a kryptonite proof shield and took control over the Metallos.

"My Adventures with Supergirl"[]

Waller would attempt to protect the planet from the Metallos without Lex. After Brainiac's defeat, it was revealed a warrant was placed for her arrest, and she is presently at large.

Trivia[]

  • This is one of the few incarnations of Amanda Waller who is not depicted as the project leader of Task Force X from the beginning, instead serving under General Lane, and eventually usurping control of the organization from him.
  • Her design is similar to her DCAU counterpart.
