Ansel G. Moreau, better known as Ambuscade, is a major villain in the Sentinels of the Multiverse cooperative superhero card game. A French action movie star whose thrill-seeking led him to start hunting superheroes, until repeated defeats caused him to retire from villainy and even aiding the heroes later on.
Biography[]
Ansel Goddard Moreau's impressive physique, athletic ability and handsome appearance, combined with his insistence on doing all his own stunts, propelled the Saint-Tropez-born movie star into global fame and acclaim. However, the fake action seen on screen was not enough to sate Ansel's lust for a challenge, leading to his hobby of big game hunting. Even that could only satisfy him for so long, and so he turned to the greatest challenge of them all: the superhuman heroes protecting the Earth.
Knowing that his previous gear would not be enough, he went to a "shady genetics corporation" in order to undergo experiments that would grant him superpowers. While he was blessed with the ability to manipulate energy, the experiments also scarred his face. Distraught by the damage to his appearance, Ansel retired from acting and became the full-time masked villain Ambuscade.
One of Ambuscade's first and most persistent targets was the immortal Maori warrior Haka. Ambuscade used stealth, traps and hit-and-run tactics to wear the hero down, but was eventually defeated and forced to flee. At one point he confidently sent the Prime Wardens a letter detailing when and how he's going to attack them. While he once again proved a dangerous opponent, the Wardens survived in the end. After numerous defeats, Ambuscade formed a hunting party called Slaughterhouse Six to become a more formidable unified force. Rather than Haka, Ambuscade used this group to hunt the shapeshifting Naturalist, but was once again defeated.
In the end, Ansel decided to retire as Ambuscade. He dropped the mask, and attempted to return to doing movies. After being approach by Mainstay of The Southwest Sentinels in a bar, Ansel joined the fight against the multiversal destroyer OblivAeon, taking on a new identity as Stuntman.
Personality[]
Ansel is confident to the point of arrogance, and a thrill-seeker to the core. He loves the feeling of being challenged, with his need for challenge starting his criminal career. He is exceptionally vain, to the point where a simple cheek scar was so damaging to his ego he wore a mask for years. While he loves to show off, he is able to be serious when the situation calls for even. Overall, Ansel's personality is very similar to the archetypical action movie stars he portrays.
After initially retiring as Ambuscade, he appears to have gone through a period of depression and heavy drinking, until a talk with (and bar fight alongside) Mainstay returned him to his previous self.
