~ Amethio attemping to manipulate Liko.

Amethio is the secondary antagonist of Pokémon Horizons: The Series, he is the leader of the field agents from the Explorers organization, whose goal is to steal Liko's mysterious pendant for unknown reasons serving as the first arc's secondary antagonist before he is dismissed from the mission and replaced. His goals are driven to honor his family's legacy, especially by making his grandfather, Gibeon, proud.

He is voiced by Shun Horie in Japanese and Daman Mills in English.

Biography[]

Meeting Liko[]

Amethio first appeared when he entered Indigo Academy in the Kanto region, looking for Liko's pendant and claimed to be an associate of her grandmother, she sees through the ruse and tries to escape him but Amethio's teammate: Zir, and his partner Rhydon, cornered Liko until her Sprigatito subdued the larger Pokémon with its aroma attack. Regardless Amethio caught up with the girl and prepared to take her pendant by force with the assistance of his Ceruledge, but was interrupted by the timely arrival of Professor Friede who used his Charizard to fight Amethio's Ceruledge until the battle was interrupted by Liko's pendant summoning a shield to protect her from a stray Psycho Cut of Ceruledge that nearly hit her.

After enough failures, Gibeon has Amethio reassigned from his current assignment to a different unknown operation and thus the latter is absent while his rival, Spinel, takes charge of the operation. However he would make his return following Spinel's own failures to retrieve the pendant but now working entirely for himself in order to achieve his goals even behind Gibeon's back. After confronting Friede again in some mines and then being driven off by the appearance of a Galarian Moltres, Amethio swears he'll get the pendant at any cost and unlock the secrets of Terapagos, the Pokémon contained inside it.

Personality[]

Amethio is a cold, serious and no-nonsense person who is dedicated to his goals. Amethio is capable of being polite to manipulate others to do things for him or give him what he wants. Regardless of this facet and his villainous nature, he is honorable and reserved enough to not want to truly harm Liko despite looking to take away her pendant by force. By the time of his return, however, he begins to shed some of his more noble qualities and shows more willingness to harm Liko or compromise her well-being to achieve his goals (though making sure to keep her alive and well-enough to let him use her to unlock the pendant) and also shows himself to have lost some of his more blind obedience towards Gibeon as he takes manners into his own hands without the boss' input. Though still remains loyal and wishing to impress him since he's his grandfather.

In regard to Pokémon battling, Amethio appears to truly enjoy the sport and shows eagerness to resume an interrupted battle with Professor Friede in the second episode, he also demonstrates a dislike of being underestimated as shown when he assumed Friede was sending out his Pikachu instead of his Charizard as him using a weaker Pokémon.
