Amos Thorpe is one of the three main antagonists (alongside Red Stick and Santa Anna) of Disney's 1995 live-action film, Davy Crockett: King of the Wild Frontier. He is a corrupt politician who is Davy Crockett's political rival and plans to usurp Native American lands.
He was portrayed by Robert Booth.
Biography
After Davy Crockett defeats Bigfoot Mason for driving Native Americans off their property, Davy is offered a choice to become Amos Thorpe's political opponent to prevent him from stealing any more native lands, to which Davy agrees. Davy later gives a speech to the town assuring that he will become a great representative in Tennessee and everyone cheers for him, much to Thorpe's dismay.
Davy manages to win the election and becomes a popular representative in Congress. Davy also learns from President Andrew Jackson and Major Tobias Norton that they are planning on expanding their country to make space for U.S. settlers.
When Davy learns from his friend, George Russel that Norton is trying to have the Indian Removal Act passed, they immediately head off to Washington to speak out against the bill. They arrive at Washington and Davy enters Congress, where he condemns the other politicians for their plan to annex the lands belonging to the Native Americans and persecute them, thus ending his political career for good.
Trivia
- Despite being the main antagonist of the "Congress" segment of the film, Thorpe has only one on-screen scene where he is present at Davy Crockett's speech about becoming a congressional representative.
