Outside Joan's infirmary, Anatasia converses with Rasputin. Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova (Анастасия Николаевна Романова in Russian) is a member of the Offscourings and a villain in Drifters by Kouta Hirano. She is the youngest daughter of the last Russian Tsar, Nicholas II. When she was seventeen, Anastasia and her family were shot by a Bolshevik firing squad. She has the supernatural ability to create blizzards.

History

She was first seen aiding Black King's Army subjugating the castle of Carneades under the order of Black King, freezing castle's human occupants to death with her ability to create snow storm. She was seen again attending to Joan of Arc's head injury which she sustained after the latter's confrontation with (and defeat by) Toyohisa Shimazu. Anatasia informed Joan that Giles de Rais is dead at the hands of Drifters and denies Joan's request to go immediately after Drifters. She tells the brash Joan to abide her time before leaving her.

Outside Joan's infirmary, Anatasia converses with Rasputin. Rasputin believes Toyohisa is the man who holds nothing back against his enemies, woman or not but Anatasia disagrees: he did hold back but only at the degree of what he thinks is proper, meaning he thinks he is holding back his blows but his blows might still be fatal to his opponents. What happens to his opponents after that is none of his concern. It is also revealed that she detests the Island of Japan and its people, for the humiliation of defeat her empire suffered at the hands of Japan during Russo-Japanese War. She considers them to be barbaric savages with no qualms of killing each other for centuries.

Although she calmly denied it, Rasputin deduced that the former grand duchess is furious.

Personality

Anastasia is depicted as an emotionless woman with little interest in the war between the Ends and Drifters. She apparently has some attachment to Jeanne, as Rasputin noted that she was angered that Jeanne was hurt during her battle against Toyohisa. She is cold blooded and won't hesitate to follow any orders given to her by the Black King. Anastasia is almost never seen without Rasputin by her side. She seems to be able to speak her mind freely with him. Anastasia and Joan appear to be each other's polar opposites, the former cool and collected and the latter hot-tempered and rash. At times this contrast leads to disagreements between the two, especially on the subject of the Drifters. Yet despite their differences, Rasputin implies that Shimazu Toyohisa's treatment of Joan nevertheless angered Anastasia—a suggestion that the grand duchess immediately denies.

Trivia

  • She was voiced by Junko Kitanishi (Japanese), Circé Lethem (French) and Rachel Robinson (English).
  • In Drifters Rasputin is her old acquaintance: in fact Anastasia is almost never seen without Rasputin by her side. She seems to be able to speak her mind freely with him. In real life though, she couldn't stand him and had a big fallout with her Czarina mother.
