History, and tradition are undervalued in favor of progress. But passing our ways onto the next generation for them to then improve upon, in their own way, that's what life's about. Legacy. My boy here is quite the musician himself, he'll be better than I ever was. A real savant. And a cute one at that!
~ Anaya to the parents and students of Blue Valley High

Anaya Bowin, also known as The Fiddler, is a supporting antagonist in Season 1 of the 2020-2022 CW television series Stargirl. She is the wife of the original Fiddler and the mother of Isaac Bowin, as well as a member of the Injustice Society of America.

She was portrayed by Hina Khan.

Biography[]

Anaya was married to a man known only as The Fiddler and had a son with him named Isaac. Sometime after the fall of the Golden Age Justice Society of America on Christmas Eve 2010, Anaya took up her husband's mantle as the new Fiddler and became a member of the Injustice Society of America.

In the present, Anaya works as a high school principal in Blue Valley, Nebraska while secretly assisting Icicle with his plan of restoring the Unites States to glory by fulfilling Project New America. Anaya often clashed with fellow ISA members Tigress and Sportsmaster whom she held in very low regard and was chastised by them for not being able to wake Brainwave from his coma with her violin.

Anaya was present during an ISA meeting in their underground lair where Dragon King reveals to the group that Brainwave's son, Henry King Jr. possesses his father's telepathic abilities and intended on using the boy to power his amplifier.

Anaya found a sad Isaac alone in her office after some bully made fun of him and tore his new jacket. She then told her son that his father used to get picked on for playing his favorite instrument too, but was able to make it stop by getting revenge.

She was then ordered by Icicle to go to the Whitmore-Dugan residence to assist Sportsmaster and Tigress with killing Stargirl and her family. After being provoked by Sportsmaster, Anaya remarks how unfit they are at being proper parents to Artemis which causes Tigress to fire an arrow into Anya's chest with her crossbow, killing her instantly. Anaya's death is later ruled as a hunting accident given the nature of how she was killed.

Personality[]

As the director of Blue Valley High School Anaya showed herself to be strict when around students like when she drags Courtney to her office after shoving Henry King Jr. into a lunch lady and scolds Cindy Burman for calling Courtney a "bitch". She maintained a more approachable side during social events and showed a great deal of pride in her son and his musical abilities, happily boasting about them to other parents during an open house. However, as a member of the Injustice Society, Anaya was far more emotionless and focused, almost never even uttering a word, letting her music speak for her.

Trivia[]

  • Though she is an original character, Anaya bears a resemblance to Virtuoso, an Indian woman from the comics who comes into possession of The Fiddler's violin.
  • Anaya shares similarities with the late William Zarick; both are members of the Injustice Society who love their sons (Joey Zarick and Isaac Bowin) and were at odds with other members of the group who later killed them (Icicle for William, Tigress for Anaya).
  • Anaya is the only member of the ISA not to kill anyone; at least to the knowledge of viewers.
  • Despite taking on her husband's role in the ISA as the new Fiddler, Anaya is never referred by that name.
