The Ancelotti Crime Family is one are the two overarching antagonists (alongside with Bulgarin Family) of the 2008 video game Grand Theft Auto IV and supporting characters in the 2009 midquel DLC The Ballad of Gay Tony. They are the fifth most powerful family in The Commission that is run by Giovanni Ancelotti.
Influence[]
The Ancelotti Family is based on the Colombo Crime Family, the weakest mafia family in The Commission aka Five Families. Both families are mainly located in New York (Liberty City) but primarily in New Jersey (Alderney).
History[]
Background[]
The mafia family was started by the Italian immigrant Ancelotti family. The main location for the family is in Alderney City, Alderney and Algonquin, Liberty City but mostly in Little Italy. Eventually sometime in the mid 20th century, the Ancelottis joined The Commission, and were the weakest family in the organization. Some time after this, they joined forces with the Albanian Mob.
In the 1970's, the Ancelottis started a war with the Gambetti Family. In 1972, the underboss of the Gambetti Family, Jon Gravelli nearly murdered the Ancelotti's unnamed don at the time, but spared him. After this, the Ancelottis started a war with the Messina Family and with the Lupisella Family, while having a good relationship with the Pavano Family. In 1978, the don of the family was assassinated and his nephew, Giovanni became Don of the family, while the same happened to the Gambettis, with Gravelli taking over.
By the late 1990s, a new mafia family, The Pegorinos, run by Jimmy Pegorino, aimed for being apart of The Commission, with the other families all disagreeing against this idea, making sure their plan never succeeds. Soon after, the Ancelottis started a war with the Pegorinos in order to become more powerful and get more recognition, with both families becoming weaker after the war had subsided.
From around 2007 to 2008, nightclub owner and Giovanni's daughter, Gracie's close friend, Anthony "Gay Tony" Prince had borrowed a large sum of money from Giovanni. Soon after, Tony forgot to pay Giovanni back and was in a large amount of debt, which was put against him by soldiers, Rocco and Vince Pelosi.
Events in Grand Theft Auto IV[]
By 2008, the Ancelottis are still at somewhat of a war against the Gambettis, Messinas and the Pegorinos. Eventually, the Pegorinos joined forces with the McReary Crime Family, similarly to how the Ancelottis had joined forces with the Albanians.
The McRearys, lead by Gerald and Patrick McReary then hire hitman, Niko Bellic who is enforced to kill various Ancelotti capos. Niko's first job involves Packie, Niko, Michael Keane and Gordon Sargent attack an Ancelotti front and steal a bag of some of their money, with the Ancelottis failing to stop them.
After that, Gerald sends Niko out to kill Ancelotti capo, Anthony "Tony Black" Spoleto. Niko puts a bomb under his car, and waits for him to reach the meeting point, where Niko then explodes the car killing Tony a majority of the other mobsters. Soon after, Gerald kills an Albanian biker, who was meant to meet up with Ancelotti capo, Frank Garone, to which Niko then stole the biker's clothes and killed Frank.
Meanwhile, Rocco Pelosi hires Tony Prince and his bodyguard, Luis Fernando Lopez since both of them are in debt to the family. They then torture a union official of the Messina Family at a golf field. Soon after, Luis gets the information needed and kills two of the Ancelotti's targets.
Later, Niko kidnaps and holds Gracie Ancelotti for ransom on orders from the McRearys, in a scheme to retrieve the diamonds Gay Tony and Luis had stole from them. During the deal, Niko's archenemy, other than Dimitri Rascalov, Russian mobster Ray Bulgarin ambushed the deal and stole the diamonds. It turns out that Giovanni had ties with Bulgarin and planned out the ambush.
Soon after, consigliere of the Pegorino Family, Phil Bell enforced Niko to murder Ancelotti underboss, Charles "Chubby Charlie" Matteo at his hideout in Port Tudor, Alderney.
Giovanni gets fed up of Tony and Luis and sends out Rocco and Vince to inform Luis that must either commit suicide or kill Tony. Luis manipulates Rocco into thinking he'll kill Tony, but ends up killing Vince but letting Rocco survive.
