You will die today. Marxists, liberals, members of the elite.
~ Behring before killing several teenagers at Utøya.
Today I speak on behalf of Europeans who have been deprived of their ethnic, indigenous, cultural, and territorial rights. The prosecution tell you I'm insane, they do this because they fear me. Because I have committed the most sophisticated, the most spectacular political assassination in Europe since World War II. And why? Because Norway, Europe... these are not real democracies. Is it democratic for a nation not to be consulted about whether it becomes multicultural? To force them to become a minority in their own capital? Many will realize this in the coming decades and pick up arms, just as I did. (...) When peaceful revolution is made impossible, then violent revolution is the only option. I demand to be acquitted because I acted in defense of my country.
~ Breivik's speech at the court.
Geir? I'll do it all again if I could. There will be others to finish what I've started. You can't even see us.
~ Breivik's last words to Geir.

Anders Behring Breivik is the main villainous protagonist of the 2018 crime drama film 22 July, which was based on the Norway terrorist attacks that happened in 2011 which was considered the deadliest in Norway since World War II and the deadliest mass shooting by a lone perpetrator in history.

He was portrayed by Anders Danielsen Lie.

History[]

Behring was a white nationalist who hated the Marxists, immigrants, and the elites. So much so, he decided to commit a series of attacks that would forever change the nation. He starts of by disguising himself as a police officer and subsequently loading multiple explosives in a white van. He then takes the van to Regjeringskvartalet, the Executive Government Quarto in Oslo, Norway. After parking the van in the close proximity of the office belonging to Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, he escaped before the explosives detonated, killing eight people in the process.

Behring continues his spree by crossing over to the island of Utøya in Tyrifjorden, Buskerud, where several teenagers were attending a summer camp called the Worker's Youth League. Upon hearing of the bombing, Behring arrives and - continuing his façade as a police officer "Martin Nilsen" - tasks the directors with gathering the children in one place. When that was done, Anders kills the directors before opening fire on the campers, killing a great score of them. One of the campers - Viljar Hanssen - is wounded in the crossfire, and Behring's massacre is ceased when he was arrested and taken in for questioning.

While being interrogated by the authorities, Anders tries to claim that he was just one of potentially many far-right terrorists, attempting to use his story to coerce more terrorist attacks. Anders asks for Geir Lippestad to represent him in court since he was well-known for defending a Nazi. Despite his hatred for the deranged terrorist, Lippestad takes the job. While meeting with Behring, Lippestad tries to suggest having Anders take the plea on insanity so he could receive a lesser punishment. Anders initially agrees with the notion, but realizing that he wouldn't receive the mass media coverage he craved, he turns it down. In the end, Anders is sentenced to life in prison.

Trivia[]

  • Anders Behring Breivik's sentence at the end of the film is a major deviation to his sentence in real life. The real Anders Behring Breivik was sentenced to 21 years in prison with the possibility of extending his sentence if he is still deemed a danger to society, being this the maximum penalty in Norway instead of life imprisonment. Nowadays, Breivik is still doing time.
