~ Liebowitz bragging about raping his latest victim |
Andrew Liebowitz is a supporting antagonist in the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Hell's Kitchen". He is a celebrity chef who, along with his best friend Chris Hodges, sexually assaulted a classmate when he was a teenager.
He was portrayed by Luke Kirby.
Biography[]
Liebowitz and his friend Chris Hodges grew up together in New York City. When they were teenagers, Hodges nearly raped a girl named Bethany at a party in high school while Liebowitz cheered him on, but she got away before anything could happen and never reported it.
As an adult, he worked as a chef, catering to a wealthy clientele and earning a prestigious reputation. He continued to be a predator and would rape several women under his employ or who he would met at VIP parties at the restaurant and drug their drinks. He would also steal their underwear, keeping them as a memento of the rape to relive the moment.
Whenever an accusation was filed against him, Hodges, now an Assistant District Attorney, would make the charges go away by claiming there was no credible evidence.
"Hell's Kitchen"[]
Liebowitz is first seen catering a party for a pair of wealthy men, with his waitress, Kayla, serving them drinks. When they were alone in the wine cellar, Liebowitz comes on to her and proceeds to rape her when she says no.
Kayla is found in an Uber by local cops with a driver being looked at because he was on top of her; he provides an alibi, however, and is cleared. The NYPD's Special Victims Unit are called in by the cops and suspect Leibowitz. For his part, Liebowitz admits to having sex with her, but claims it was consensual.
Hodges meets with Liebowitz, and reprimands him for causing more trouble. Liebowitz replies says he will never have to worry about anything with Hodges on his side. However, Hodges says that he cannot keep getting him out of trouble. Liebowitz apologizes for all the other accusations while confirming each rape happened.
Hodges attempts to make Liebowitz take sole responsibility for assaulting Bethany, but Liebowitz insists that Hodges was the one who pinned her down. Hodges tries to deny it, but SVU - who are listening in on Hodges and Liebowitz in order to get both of them to confess to their crimes - hears everything and arrests both of them for rape.
Liebowitz is imprisoned for multiple counts of rape and sexual assault. SVU Lieutenant Olivia Benson later assures Kayla if they can amount all the evidence against him by Hodges' replacement, Leibowitz will serve life in prison.
Trivia[]
- Liebowitz is loosely based on Mario Batali, a disgraced celebrity chef who was accused of sexual harassment and groping by multiple women.
