He is a high-ranking agent in the Pinkerton National Detective Agency and corrupt official, partnering Edgar Ross, who works for wealthy businessman Leviticus Cornwall to take down the Van der Linde gang. He is also Dutch van der Linde and Arthur Morgan's arch-nemesis.
He was voiced by John Hickok.
Biography[]
Past[]
Milton’s past remains unknown, but at one point in his life, he started working in the Pinkerton National Detective Agency and become a high-ranked agent among the organization.
Milton is a strong believer of the inevitable progress of civilization, enjoying “society, flaws and all” and considers remaining outlaws, such as Dutch van der Linde, to be savages, venerating savagery and to be parasites that preys on the civilized and weak. He is ruthlessly determined to achieve his goals and bring civilization to the west, no matter the means. It is hinted that the others Pinkerton hates him, as one agent will state he’d like to “find a poisonous snake for him”, hinting Milton as being ruthless and despicable.
Red Dead Redemption II[]
In 1899, as the era of outlaws and gunslingers was coming to an end and America started to become a land of laws, Milton was forming a duo with Edgar Ross. They likely participated in the Blackwater Massacre and wealthy industrialist Leviticus Cornwall will later finance the Pinkertons to track and find Dutch Van der Linde and his gang after they robbed one of his trains.
Milton and Ross will be able to find Arthur Morgan and young Jack Marston near the gang’s camp at Horseshoe Overlook, where Milton proposes Arthur to turn down on Dutch in exchange for amnesty. As Arthur refuses, Milton reveals that they captured gang member Mac Callander after the Blackwater Massacre, questioned him then killed him slowly, what Milton calls a “mercy kill”.
The pair will track the gang down and during a bank heist in Saint Denis, Milton has Hosea Matthews hostage and orders the gang to surrender before ruthlessly execute Hosea despite he was harmless and not able to defend himself. Milton then leaves his men to capture the gang, which they fails but they are able to kill Lenny Summers and take John Marston hostage to take him to Sisika Penitentiary, offshore the State of Lemoyne.
Later, after the gang’s return in Guarma, Milton encounters Micah Bell and he becomes an informant for the agency. Milton is then able to locate them at Lakay and orders the assault with a minigun on their hideout, despite the presence of a child and many women and other no-armed people. Despite Milton’s efforts, the gang repel the attack.
Eventually, the gang is able to murder Cornwall for his actions, hoping that without their financial support, the Pinkertons will be without means at the end. However, Milton later kidnaps Abigail Roberts and takes her to Van Horn Trading Post to take her on a boat and charge her with murder. Abandoned by Dutch, who was manipulated by Micah and starting to lose his sanity, Arthur and Sadie Adler goes to save her and repel the agents but she is captured by Milton as well. He is then confronted by Arthur and reveals Micah’s treason when everyone thought the rat was Molly O’Shea, who was subsequently killed. Arthur grabs Milton’s gun but is overpowered because of tuberculosis. Just before Milton could press the trigger, he is shot in the head by Abigail, who managed to free herself. Leaving his body behind, the three escapes Van Horn.
Milton was then killed, bringing Ross’s statement in RDR1 that “...Everyone will eventually pay for what they've done". Although it is true that he was doing his job, he was as just ruthless than the people he was hunting and payed the price for it.
Legacy[]
Edgar Ross takes the Pinkertons charge after Milton’s death and orders the assault on the gang’s camp at Beaver Hollow but are unable to catch any of them, except that Arthur and Susan Grimshaw died. 8 years later, he becomes the director of the new Bureau of Investigation, FBI’s ancestor and discovers Micah Bell’s corpse with Archer Fordham and they are able to track down John Marston, which leads to the events of Red Dead Redemption. Ross uses John to capture and kill Dutch, Bill Williamson and Javier Escuella before betraying him and killing him, indirectly avenging Milton’s and Micah’s murders, although Ross is himself killed as revenge by Jack Marston later.
Personality[]
Immediately in his first appearance, Milton is shown to be a strong believer in the inevitable progress of civilization, best summed by one his quotes to Arthur Morgan : “I enjoy society, flaws and all”. Milton considers remaining outlaws, namely Dutch van der Linde, to be “parasites” and savages that preys on the civilized and weak. Ruthlessly determined to capture Dutch, he is even willing to offer the other members of the gang to surrender and turn Dutch in, in exchange of presumed amnesty.
However, despite being depicted to work for the law being respected, Milton is in fact as ruthless, indifferent, unscrupulous and snide as the criminals he is hunting, notably executing Hosea Matthews after his capture, slowly killing an injured Mac Callander after his interrogation (what he calls a mercy kill) and says this in front of 4 years-old Jack Marston and orders his agents to open fire with a Maxim gun on a shack housing several unarmed people, Jack included. He even considered giving them a chance to surrender before shrugging and deciding to slaughter them regardless.
Milton also displays a dark, dry, morbid sense of humor throughout the game, taunting a terminally sick Arthur Morgan by ironically saying he was “losing his strength” before attempting to kill him, and, failing to obtain Dutch’s whereabouts from Arthur, he declares he slowly killed Mac Callander in a “mercy kill”, regardless of Jack’s presence.
Even his fellow agents dislikes him, one notably stated he’d liked to “find a poisonous snake for him”. Milton also showed pride in the Native Americans’ genocide and to be racist towards Lenny Summers. His only redeeming quality is that he insist to be confined to the law, opposite to this employer Leviticus Cornwall.

Trivia[]
- As Andrew Milton and Arthur Morgan first met in the mission “A Fisher of Men”, when failing to convince Arthur to turn Dutch in, he angrily tells Arthur that him and his fellow gang members are all going to die savagely. Arthur responses that they are all going to die, to which Milton replies “some of us sooner than others”, which is ironic because eventually, Arthur will outlive Milton thanks to Abigail in his final mission “Red Dead Redemption”.
- Milton is about 175cm (5'9'' feet) tall and weighs 66kg (145 pounds).
- Milton’s death contributes to the central theme of the Red Dead series: the fact that you can't run from your actions, as he is killed by Abigail when nearly killing Arthur, Arthur dying from tuberculosis/Micah, then Micah being killed by John which leads the BOI to Marston and Edgar Ross killing him, leading Jack to gun down Edgar. In the end, Jack is the only one who is still alive because he has committed no truly immoral actions.
- Interestingly, all the main antagonists since Red Dead Redemption were killed by a Marston, with Abigail killing Milton, John shooting Micah and Jack gunning down Ross.
