| “ | Welcome, peasants! This is a Diary of a Professional, Eminent Duke and Orator. And, have to say, the old diary was looking a bit empty after Charlie's Christmas invite to the palace got cancelled. No problem, P. Diddy's having me over! | „ |
| ~ Andrew's address to Diary of a P.E.D.O. |
Andrew Albert Christian Edward Mountbatten Windsor (formerly His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, Duke of York) is a major antagonist in the political satire comedy sketch show Spitting Image, and its vodcast spin-off The Rest is Bullsh!t.
He is the disgraced former Prince of York who became embroiled in an enormous scandal due to his ties and allegations associated with paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Portrayals[]
- Andrew was originated by Chris Barrie, who also portrayed Arnold Rimmer, Low Rimmer, Rimmerworld Inhabitants, Rimmer's Duplicate, Unspeakable One and Mr. Flibble in Red Dwarf and the French Revolutionary Ambassador in Blackadder.
- He was later played by Alistair McGowan, who also portrayed Tony Blair in the same series, Angus Bumby in Alice: Madness Returns and Carlos in Robbie the Reindeer.
- In the later reboots, he is voiced by Lewis Macleod, who also portrayed Coroni, Michael Gove and Nigel Farage in the same series, The Entity and the Jester in the third instalment of the Mr. Hopp's Playground franchise, Protoboy, General Yakitori, Bjorn Bjornson, Bjornbot, Truckenstein, and Felonious Hexx, among other villains in Robotboy, IG-88 and Sebulba in Star Wars, Lucy Simian in Season 1 of The Amazing World of Gumball, Bluebeard in Sandra: The FairyTale Detective, and Zaid in Horizon: Zero Dawn. He is puppeteered by Brian Herring, who also controlled the puppet of Keir Starmer in the same show.
Personality[]
Andrew delusively panders to his "audience" in an attempt to clear his name, and re-establish his former fame and glory. He shows little to no accountability for his actions, and is forever shown to be out of touch, grandiose and pompous. He is an outcast to his family.
During a nature mockumentary, David Attenborough describes him as "showing neither fear nor remorse, genetically devoid of shame."
Physical appearance[]
Andrew is often seen clad in stalking gear with greying hair and a large, angular head.
Biography[]
Spitting Image (reboot)[]
Andrew's sketches centre on failed attempts at reintegrating himself into positive publicity by appealing to his viewers. However, these are often cut short by the classic gag of being hit round the back of the head with a wooden plank, a joke commonly used on Margaret Thatcher.
The Rest is Bullsh!t[]
Andrew returns in the vodcast hosted by his nephew, Prince Harry and Paddington Bear. He is shown to host a vlog as diaries of a P.E.D.O (standing for Professional Emininent Duke and Orator) about his life which has become eventless since his exile from the Royal Family. In a later episode, he releases an album called "Nevermind the Allegations, Here's the Sex Pests" (a parody of Nevermind the Buzzcocks, Here's the Sex Pistols).
Andrew appears in a Halloween episode as a parody of Candyman in Andyman.
In a later episode, Andrew is shown in an animal documentary led by David Attenborough. In the wake of Andrew being stripped of his royal titles, he is depicted as a scrounger exiled from his usual territory. He bemoans his situation and the fact he now has to live in Norfolk, to which a rat retaliates and begrudges the fact he must live with Andrew.
Andrew returns in a sketch where he is working as a Father Christmas. A child comes along and sits on Andrew's lap, who extorts him for £10,000 or otherwise she will claim he molested her. He recognises her skill in deceit and manipulation and claims she would be a fantastic member of the British Royal Family.
