Andromedan remains

The remains of a dead Andromedan

The Andromedans were the main antagonistic faction of the Blake's 7 second season finale "Star One" and a minor antagonist in the third season opener "Aftermath".

Their true form was not seen clearly with those encountered having assumed human form. All that was seen of them was their remains when they died.

History[]

The Andromedans may have had a previous encounter with the Terran Federation, since a minefield had been set up on the edge of Earth's galaxy, keeping an assembled Andromedan invasion fleet at bay. Despite this, the Andromedans were able to ally themselves with Travis, who provided them with the location of Star One, the Federation's main computer control complex. Andromedan infiltrators killed and replaced almost all of the base's technicians, leaving a woman named Lurena as the only survivor. They then began weakening the Federation prior to their invasion by sabotaging the computer systems, causing a number of disasters.

During the closing stages of their plan, the Liberator arrived at the planet with the crew also planning to destroy Star One in order to cripple the Federation. Blake and Cally encountered the fake technicians but Blake was assumed to be Travis. He was shocked to learn the Andromedans intended to wipe out the human race. Before he could take any real action against them, the real Travis arrived, shooting Blake and wounding him. Travis then deactivated a segment of the minefield but he and the senior Andromedans were killed in a short gun battle with Blake and Avon. Most of the remaining Andromedans on Star One were killed when Lurena sacrificed herself by allowing a bomb to detonate in their midst.

The Liberator prepares to engage the Andromedan fleet

The Andromedan fleet took the only remaining course of action for them and began heading through the gap in the minefield a few ships at a time. Having sent out a distress call, the Liberator battled them until Federation ships arrived along with other human vessels. The Andromedans destroyed Star One and inflicted major damage to the Federation, destroying two thirds of their ships, but were eventually overwhelmed by sheer weight of numbers with their entire fleet destroyed.

Trivia[]

  • The name "Andromedans" was never actually spoken in the episode, with them merely being referred to as aliens from Andromeda.
