Andy Morgan is a major antagonist in Coronation Street, appearing in April 2003.

He was portrayed by Steve Huison, who later played the regular character of Eddie Windass from 2008 to 2011.

Biography[]

Andy was one of the brothers of Tom Morgan, a criminal that Angela Harris testified against after witnessing him stab a man to death in the pub where she worked in Sheffield. Having issued threats warning Angela not to testify, Andy and his other brother Nick responded to Tom's conviction by torching the family's home. As a result, the Harrises were placed in witness protection.

Andy learned that two old friends of Angela's teenage daughter Katy were going to Manchester to meet with her in secret at a gig. Andy loitered outside the gig and followed Katy back to Weatherfield and Coronation Street, where the family were living under the surname Nelson, although he lost track of her after she got off the bus. Andy returned to the area with Nick and they staked out the street, spotting Katy leaving No 13. They knocked on the door but Andy stopped Nick forcing his way in when pre-teen Rosie Webster answered the door. He told Rosie's mother Sally that they were looking for their old friends Tommy and Angela (deliberating leaving out their surname, since he realised they were unlikely to be using it) but had forgotten the number. Sally pointed him towards the Nelsons' home at No 6.

Andy and Nick forced their way into the house but found Katy on her own there. She tried to claim that her parents were away for the night but the brothers insisted on waiting for Angela to turn up. Andy told Katy that they had twenty friends primed to say they were in a pub in Sheffield and there was no way for anyone to prove they'd found the family. Nick nervously pointed out that Sally had seen them but Andy dismissed the idea of her being able to recognise them. Sally and her husband Kevin knocked on the door, prompting them to hide.

Nick wanted to take Katy and leave but Andy insisted on waiting until night. The brothers were delighted when Katy revealed she had been diagnosed with diabetes and had missed an insulin injection, refusing to let her have her medication and happy to let her die a "natural" death with no evidence of foul play. Meanwhile, police had arrived in the street after Kevin, aware the Nelsons were in witness protection and thus shouldn't have old friends looking for them, had raised the alarm.

An increasingly ill Katy called out for help, prompting Tommy to storm into the house. Nick shot Tommy and injured him, but ended up being overpowered by police. Andy took advantage of the distraction to flee across the neighbouring gardens. It was later reported that the police had picked him up while speeding in a stolen car and he had been charged with attempted murder.
