~ The Angel Mother as she tries to take Mel back and her last words in the Pilot. |
The Angel Mother is the main antagonist of Glitch Production's horror comedy web series The Gaslight District. She is the mother and leader of the angels who wish to bring suffering upon the Rotlings who replaced humans as the dominant species. She is also the de-facto leader of the Virtues and Mel's biological mother.
She is voiced by Margaret Ashley.
Biography[]
Eons ago, the Angel Mother went to war with the Virtue Corp.. when she seemingly defied their order. After the battle, the Virtues seemingly won against the angels and the Mother formed a temporary alliance with them. Over the years, she sent her angels to watch over the remains of humanity who evolved into the Rotlings. She also enlisted the help of some Rotlings to serve as guardians of Paradise Lost with Diligence serving as their leader. One day, the Angel Mother laid an egg that birthed the first human in years, and it somehow got into the hands of Ken. That human child would grow up to become Mel.
Years later, Mel received information about an egg that the Mother is now in possession of. She wishes to use that egg and pretend that it's the prophesied human egg and destroy it in front of the citizens of the Gaslight District so that they would no longer fear the egg prophesy. Once Mel reached the Stairway to Heaven with the help of the Smiling Dead, she is lured into heaven by the Mother and steals the egg from her. The Mother attacks Mel, who then stabs her forehead with a knife, causing her to go into a frenzy. Mel runs out of heaven but is attacked by the Mother, causing her to tumble off the stairway and into Ken's arms.
Ken, with the aid of Breadhead, takes Mel to a truck driven by Mud while the Mother calls upon her angels to stop them before they could escape. After the Angels failed to retrieve the egg and was contained by the Virtues, the Mother returns to heaven to tend to her injuries.
Personality[]
From what is shown in the PILOT, the Angel Mother "cares" for the Angels, shown when she is protecting her egg from Mel despite her being her daughter. Despite being Mel's mother, she is rude and rough to her, though this is presumably because she is angered that Mel would sacrifice an innocent angel to save her own hide and that she refuses to fulfil the prophecy.
She harbors extreme hatred towards the Black Hand for allowing the Rotlings to continue existing, delaying judgement for their sins and allowing them to continue committing atrocities. As stated, she wants to rid them of their immortality and destroy them through any means necessary.
Trivia[]
- According to a code hidden within heaven, the Angel Mother plans to betray the Virtues once the time arises.
- According to Margaret Ashley, the Angel Mother is the main antagonist for the series.[1]
