~ The death quote after losing to the Angel and Demon. |
Angel and Demon are minor antagonists in The Delicious Last Course, the DLC expansion of the 2017 run-n'-gun video game Cuphead.
Enigmatic entities seemingly existing in a metaphysical realm, they attempt to kill Cuphead and his friends to appease The Devil as he watches the battle in a skeletal form.
Appearance[]
Serving as a nod to the classic "shoulder angel and demon" trope, their appearance is that of a stereotypical angel and demon in popular culture. Angel wears a blue toga, a bright yellow halo, and has two small horns protruding from his head. He also has big fluffy wings and is constantly seen in a praying stance. Demon on the other hand is completely in the nude, has long, sheep-esque horns, and short wings akin to that of a bat's. Oddly enough, both of them bare a slight resemblance to the Devil.
Personality[]
Fitting of a demon of his malevolent nature, Demon is coldhearted, wrathful, and relishes in evil. He seems to enjoy his attempts at killing Cuphead and his friends, and even summons towering walls of fire with just his rage alone. Angel however, does not seem to care for killing Cuphead and his pals, joyously singing in their presence and even seeming a bit saddened by their demise in the game over screen. Thus, it can be assumed he is being forced to fight them.
Biography[]
If Cuphead, Mugman, or Ms. Chalice approaches the Graveyard with the Cursed Relic, they are treated to a pecuilar game involving a code entailed by the resident ghosts. After solving this code, they are allowed to rest in the Graveyard for a bit, where they are greeted to the sight of Angel and Demon, as well as the Devil himself, reduced to a mere skeleton (presumably due to his brawl with Cuphead and Mugman). After defeating the ghastly, ghoulish pair, they are sucked into the Devil's eyeholes. Cuphead, or whoever the player was playing with at that moment, later wakes up after this, leaving the two's ultimate fate completely left to mystery.

Trivia[]
- Interestingly, The Angel cannot be directly attacked throughout the entire battle, with all of the damage inflicted being directed towards The Demon. It is likely this is due to The Angel's "attacks" not hurting the player, whereas The Demon's does.
- It's also a reference to the belief that angels always have your back, while the demon is the one you need to face head on.
- Oddly enough, The Angel is still shown to be knocked out at the end of the fight, insinuating that he was injured in battle. This may be due to the Angel and Demon technically being the same entity in a sense, as they morph into each other when The Angel is looked at.
- It is often theorized that the fight takes place during the Astral Plane, due to how mystical and otherworldly the scenery is, and how the Angel and Demon are fought after resting in a graveyard, a place where the dead are buried. However, this is not confirmed.
- One hole in this theory is the fact that when the player is playing as Ms. Chalice, Cuphead and her still switch places and the former goes into the Astral Plane, this could be just due to that being the normal intro animation for Ms. Chalice though.
- Just like the Tipsy Troop, Angel and Demon have no intro animations, though the screen does become less blurry when the battle starts.
- During the loading screen before the fight, the usual chipper hourglass is seen broken and dismantled. It is unknown why this occurs, but it was likely implemented to add a sense of eeriness to the fight.
- It is unknown why the Angel is helping the Demon.
