Angie Phelps is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Owen Whistler) of the 2022 queer slasher film They/Them. Angie is a killer of conversion camp employees at a camp she was traumatized by that she infiltrated out of revenge.
She’s portrayed by Anna Chlumsky.
Biography[]
Angie was brutalized at the conversion camp run by Owen Whistler. She swore revenge for her pain by preparing a murderous campaign against Whistler Camp and all other conversion camps to destroy any power conversion abuse had. She killed nurse Molly Erickson and stole her identity to infiltrate the camp, while she presided over the kids at the facility. She sabotaged the humiliations Whistler put the kids through, such as giving trans girl Alexandra estrogen hormones when Whistler forbade her from them.
Angie finds photos of the violence Whistler Camp put kids through because non-binary kid Jordan Lewis found them, and she swears to keep the kids safe, secretly all the more incited to kill the entire staff. She starts with groundskeeper Balthazar, who she slams face first into the monitor he voyeuristically watches the girls through when they’re in the shower. Angie finally broke her discretion about her objections against the camp when Gabriel seduced Stu, only for him to be restrained and repeatedly zapped out cold in a severe aversion therapy torture. She said she’d go to the police and stormed off, but in truth, she grabbed an axe to hack Zane and Sarah to death during sex, then electrocuted Gabriel in the torture seat for luring Stu to it.
Angie prepares all the dead employees to be arranged for Whistler to be confronted, including that of his wife Cora, whose throat was cut sometime beforehand. While Alexandra gets the kids out, all except for Jordan, Angie unmasks herself in front of Whistler and confesses to all her crimes and motives. Angie is knocked back when trying to kill Whistler, but Jordan trains a gun on Whistler to stop him. Angie uses this opportunity to impale him on a rhino’s head and shit his throat. Angie wants Jordan to join her in her efforts, but they refuse and leave her to be arrested by police. The kids put their trauma past them and agree to move on.
