No mercy for Angron. Angron the Oathbreaker. Angron the Betrayer.
~ Angron's bitter resentment towards his father.
Which one of us was a child enslaved on a world of monsters, with his brain cut up by carving knives? Listen to your blue clad wretches yelling courage and honor, courage and honor, courage and honor! Do you even know the meaning of those words? Courage is fighting the kingdom which enslaves you, no matter that their armies outnumber yours by ten-thousand to one. You know nothing of courage! Honor is resisting a tyrant when all others suckle and grow fat on the hypocrisy he feeds them. You know nothing of honor!
~ Angron to Guilliman.

Lord Angron (born Angronius and formerly named Angron Thal'kyr), also known as the Red Angel, the Lord of the Red Sands, and the Daemon Primarch of Khorne, is a major antagonist in the grimdark science fantasy franchise Warhammer 40,000.

He serves as the Daemon Primarch of the bloodcrazed World Eaters Legion and Daemon Prince of Khorne. Like his Chaos Marines, Angron was once a loyalist, leading his Legion then known as the War Hounds. However, when came the time of the Horus Heresy, Angron, by this point being driven increasingly mad by the Butcher's Nails in his brain, turned on his brothers and joined the heretics. Discarding whatever was left of their humanity, Angron and the World Eaters became the most violent and sadistic Legion of all, devoting themselves to Chaos God of War, Khorne, with Angron himself eventually achieving the ultimate pinnacle of the followers of Chaos; Transforming into Daemon Prince.

Personality[]

Having been driven nigh completely mad by the Butcher's Nails, Angron's entire existence is dedicated to slaughter. As bloodshed is literally the only way he is able to feel any joy and pleasure, he is a sadist to the extreme and is never happier than when butchering everyone and everything in his way upon the battlefield. His rage endless, his desire for violence without equal, he is a destructive force of evil and is completely devoted to his patron God of Chaos, Khorne.

After ascending as a Daemon Prince, all of Angron's attributes were elevated to even greater extremes. Now serving as a living embodiment of Khorne's rage and bloodlust, Angron's hatred and need for violence is almost impossible to quench.

Despite the monster he has become, Angron's tale is ultimately a deep tragedy. Having arguably the worst upbringing of all the Primarchs, Angron was enslaved from a very early age and forced into the gladiatorial arena. He was a being of great compassion and empathy, with empathy actually being one of his Primarch powers, allowing him to help ease the pain of his fellow slaves and uplift them in their dark moments. He came to see the other gladiators as his family, which left a fierce wound when he was rescued by the Emperor as he wasn't allowed to save the others as well. Angron held bitter resentment towards his father ever since, something that played a major factor in his fall to Chaos. Even with the Butcher's Nails slowly driving him mad, and his violent outbursts and general contempt towards his own Legion, Angron was still capable of acts of selflessness and his power of empathy, and while these moments were rare, they showed him as a true leader and Primarch to the World Eaters.
