~ Anna trying to get The Campus Killer to kill her. |
Anna Begley is a secondary antagonist in the Criminal Minds season three episode "Doubt". She is a mentally ill college girl that commits a copycat murder in order to free a spree killer so she could become one of his victims.
She is portrayed by Shelly Cole.
Biography[]
Anna was a young adult girl who attended a college in Flagstaff, Arizona. She suffered from severe depression and harmed herself a lot. Due to her odd behavior, she was often bullied and ostracized by her classmates, which only made things worse. It is not known what caused her depression, but due to this she wanted to end her life, though she was too afraid to do the deed herself. When someone began killing girls on her campus, she saw the chance to finally end her suffering and became obsessed with the case.
After The Campus Killer had murdered three girls, the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit were called in to profile the psycho. Their profile ended up leading them to Nathan Tubbs, one of the security guards who fit it to a T. Unfortunately, the evidence against Tubbs was all circumstantial and they didn't have actually any solid proof to convict him. Nonetheless, they still hold him overnight to see if the murders stop. Anna, having heard about the capture of Tubbs commits a copycat murder that night so they would have to let him go. Despite the profile not matching the latest murder, the BAU have no choice but to release Tubbs.
As he is let go from his job and on his way out of the college, he is approached by a now short-haired brunette Anna (she was formerly a long-haired blonde, but redid it in order to match The Campus Killer's victim type) who asks him to accompany her to an empty courtyard area of the college. As they get to the end of the courtyard, Anna pulls out a knife and asks Tubbs to stab her, however, Tubbs believes the whole thing to be a set-up and rudely refuses and insults her. Angered by both his refusal and remark, Anna stabs him in the stomach. Having tailed the two, BAU agents Prentiss and Morgan arrive to the scene and hold their guns on Anna, who asks if they're going to shoot her. Upon realizing that they wouldn't shoot her, Anna plunges the blade into her stomach and bleeds out along with Tubbs.

Trivia[]
- Anna is inspired by multiple real-life and fiction criminals:
- Veronica Compton, an attempted murderer who tried to choke a woman to death to get imprisoned serial killer Kenneth Bianchi, one of the "Hillside Stranglers", released on suspicion of "innocence".
- Sinedu Tadesse, a mentally deranged college student at Harvard eventually responsible for the killing of her roommate, Tran Phuong Ho, before committing suicide. This resulted in irate reaction over the university officials not regarding warning signs.
- Giorgio, the hidden antagonist of The Bloodstained Butterfly, a killer of two women to get Alessandro Marchi, the killer of his lover, released for a final showdown, where both murderers end up dead.
