Get out of my house.
~ Mrs. Richardson threatening Morse.
Annette: I really was thinking of Verity. I could have been... something more... but you meet someone. The wedding dress becomes the christening gown, and before you know where you are, it's twenty years. You wonder if those bright summer mornings ever happened at all. I didn't want that for my daughter.
Morse: But it wasn't your choice to make.
~ Annette revealing to Morse about her idea for her daughter.

Annette Richardson is a minor antagonist in "Arcadia", the second episode in Series 3 of Endeavour. She is the wife of Leo Richardson and the mother of Verity Richardson.

She was portrayed by Genevieve O'Reilly, who also voiced Moira from Overwatch, and is best known for portraying Mon Mothma in Star Wars franchise.

Biography[]

Twenty years ago, Annette Richardson was originally an ambitious woman who believed she could do something more, until she was married into the Richardson family and had a loveless relationship with Leo. Thus, she secretly had a love affair with other men, which was implied to include Simon Hallward.

Fed up by her boring life, Annette decided to cooperate with her husband to arrange a new life for their daughter and would do anything to enforce what she believed to be good to Verity, including abortion and firm disapproval to her relationship with Cuthbert Mukamba and later Mike Maddox.

During the investigation upon the Richardson's food tampering case, Mrs. Richardson had been infatuated by Morse. At the night after the investigation, while her husband was away, Annette called Morse for help. When Morse arrived, he discovered that Annette merely lured him so that she could have a love affair with him. Disgusted when Annette tried to seduce him, Morse stormed out of her house.

Later, after Verity's (staged) kidnapping had taken place, Annette was anxious and cried, giving please towards what appeared to be Simon Hallward's voice demanding ransom money. Whilst waiting for their daughter's news, Annette believed it was God's punishment towards what they did to Verity, but Leo had no such feelings and said it was too late to brought God on this term.

Verity was later rescued and sent to a hospital. Nevertheless, after discovering that Annette had a relationship with Hallward, who drew a portrait of Verity, Morse went straight to Annette and confronted her about this. Enraged, Annette slapped Morse in the face, but Morse said she would be charged with assault if she did that again. Annette then demanded Morse to leave.

After a visit to AMNOX, Morse had discovered the relationship between Mukamba and Verity, as well as Verity's previous experience of abortion. Immediately, Morse and Thursday went to confront the Richardsons, who tried to justify themselves that they were trying to do something good towards Verity. However, Morse pointed out they were only caring about their family's reputation.

Then, Annette had a private talk with Morse, revealing about her experience of marriage that made her jaded, and she claimed she didn't want that to happen to her daughter. Saying it wasn't Annette's choice to make, Morse still disapproved of it and left. Soon after they discovered about Ayesha's true identity as Thelma Anne Davis, who befriended Verity, Morse and Thursday went straight to confront Verity and demanded an answer.

In the meantime, Leo and Annette immediately arrived and discouraged her daughter conversing with the police, but Verity followed Morse's advice and rejected her parents. She then decided to give out everything to Morse, as her parents looked down in shame. Eventually, whatever the Richardsons were arranged for their daughter all fell into ruins immediately after Verity was arrested.
