“ | ENOUGH! I've had enough of all this "HAPPINESS." People are thanking me, hugging me, giving me hot dogs. It's disgusting. They like Lisa more than ever. I want my body back, do you hear me? I WANT MY BODY BACK NOOOOOOOOOOOOW! | „ |
~ Annie after her plan to ruin Lisa's reputation backfires |
Annie Scrambler is one of the four major antagonists (alongside Francine Carruthers, Manny Spamboni and Danny Rebus) of the 2009 revival of The Electric Company (often referred as The New Electric Company). She's a mischievous and bratty girl who's constantly envious of the Electric Company's accomplishments and tries various methods to get back at them. Despite most of her antics serving as little more than just harmless mischief or pranks, she still has a couple of moments where she commits various downright immoral actions and veers into "villain" territory.
She was portrayed by Sandie Rosa.
Personality[]
Annie's frequently envious of the accomplishments of others, and can often be very petty. She has the power to scramble any word or sentence with a stomp of her foot which results in making new words, but sometimes she scrambles existing words to create nonexistent ones. She's pretty much a foil to Lisa Heffenbacher of The Electric Company, as she also has the power to scramble and unscramble various words, but while Lisa's an all-around nice girl and good Samaritan who uses the power to benefit others, Annie's a mischievous trouble-maker who prefers to cause mayhem and trouble with her power. She's very sly and cunning with her schemes (including a time where Annie switched bodies with Lisa in and attempt to damage her beloved reputation), but also impatient and doesn't handle losing very well.
She often works with her uncle Sigmund, who is a noted hypnotist, whom she's been shown to have a genuinely close relationship with even inheriting some of their hypnosis, though not being as experienced. She'll work with the Electric Company if she has to, such as to help her uncle out in "Bananas", and is shown to have a caring side.
Villainous Roles[]
Season 1[]
- Scent of a Human: When Hector and Annie become the finalists for the music video competition -- more specifically, Hector wins while Annie becomes a runner-up -- she has her uncle Sigmund hypnotize Hector in an attempt to make him unable to stay focused on the music video so Annie would get the starring role instead. It doesn't work as the rest of the company is able to assist him.
- He's Not Frozen, He's Immobile:
- While Annie freezing Keith in time with Manny's gadget, and almost having Keith get stuck in that state forever was an accident on her part, she not only shows no remorse or guilt over what she did, she actively tries preventing them from curing Keith and mocks him.
- And even before that, she was perfectly willing to use the "permanent" freezing setting from the gadget on her little sister Amy, just because Annie was annoyed by her obsessive demands, and despite Manny's warnings about the setting not having been properly tested.
- Scrambled Brains: Her uncle Sigmund (and Annie herself behind-the-scenes) set up a phony hypnosis station that would supposedly cure someone's personal flaw (such as clumsiness), but in reality, it was a scam to lure Lisa to the area so she and Annie would be hypnotized to switch brains with each other, and Annie would use Lisa's body to try and damage the latter's reputation among the town (Lisa and Annie have similar powers to scramble and unscramble words).
- The Wordball is My Oyster: TBA
- Fromage Here to Eternity: TBA
- Electric Accompany: She asks Keith to compose a song to promote the grand opening of her uncle's hypnotism tent, and when he refuses, she personally hypnotizes him into composing the song, following her around and playing said song whenever he heard a certain sound all against his will. Then when Hector and Lisa confront Annie, find out about what she did to Keith, and try to slander her uncle's business after Annie refuses to reverse the effects, she'd hypnotize the two of them into singing the song as well (though she accidentally hypnotized herself too due to inexperience).
- Friends or Aunts: Annie tries to have her aunt Sandy hypnotize Hector and Lisa, whom they were competing against in the titular game show that quizzes how well you know your friend/aunt. But when that didn't work, Annie had Francine assist her in a different plan, but she only did so for a piece of the grand prize (especially the money). Then right before the show, Sandy would hypnotize the manager into standing in a corner and sleeping for the entire show, so Francine would pose as the manager while secretly feeding Annie and Sandy their answers (using wordballs), and giving Hector and Lisa incorrect answers.
Season 2[]
- The Potato Custom: When she gets envious over Jessica being chosen to become Junior Ambassador to represent Earth to planet Skeleckli, while she herself only became a runner-up, Annie would intentionally sabotage Jessica's speech meant to be given during the banquet, so that she'd accidentally say a very insulting term near the end, and Annie could become Junior Ambassador
Season 3[]
- Revenge of the Zeroes: She and Danny caused trouble and tried to ruin Paul the Gorilla's Banana Festival Party as petty revenge for getting a 0 on the banana sculpture contest (they had a strawberry on top of their Taj Mahal model, despite the rules saying they could only use bananas in the sculpture). This would involve using her scramble stomp to mix up the prices of the ballons (10 balloons for $20 --> 0 balloons for $120) and confuse the deliveryman, and having Danny distract the deliveryman for the party supplies so she could scramble the item amounts and their prices a second time. (2 cases of bananas for $20 --> 20 cases of bananas for $2; 50 napkins for $6 --> 60 napkins for $50; 30 paper plates for $3 --> 3 paper plates for $30; 4 pinatas for $20 --> 40 pinatas for $2; ) Then when Hector creates a spare list to confirm the order for the party was untempered with, she'd just change some of the numbers on the spare list (1 one-man band --> 10 one-man bands) knowing how the numerous one-man bands would be extremely loud.
- Spooky Summer Soiree: Tired of The Electric Company always having the best costumes at the titular costume party that always attract everyone's attention every year, leading no one to ever notice her, she buys out all of the costumes from a discount costume store so that Jessica and Marcus -- who didn't pick out their costumes yet -- would be unable to get costumes from the store for their theme, and she could wear whatever she wanted to, planning to have the most amazing costume and be loved. She'd even send Gilda (usually Francine's assistant) to lead the two astray with a false address for a yard sale.
Prankster Planet[]
In a long lost online video game, Annie and the rest of the Pranksters have a lair of their own called Prankster Planet.
Wordsuckeruppernator[]
Manny's titular gadget, the Wordsuckeruppernator, is used to suck up all the words on Earth. The only way to shut it down is by pressing all 13 off buttons all over the planet.
- "Mission 4": While Marcus and Jessica are approaching one of the buttons to shut off the Wordsuckeruppernator, they come across a sign that reads "Barnacle Miner's Garden" that has the button on top. Marcus and Jessica are confused by the sign, only for the ground to start rumbling, and the letters start to scramble and say "Danger Annie Scrambler" instead, and Annie reveals herself. Annie mocks them for not having any powers on Prankster Planet, while she is much more powerful, due to her being a prankster. Marcus and Jessica attempt to push the button, but are stopped by Annie stomping the ground more, causing the ground to shake, and the words to scramble again. While Annie is distracted, Marcus pulls out a graph that shows that they can beat Annie by getting her to show off. Jessica taunts Annie, saying she can't spell any more words, which angers Annie, and she continues to stomp and make more scrambled words. However, she ends up stomping so much that the ground begins to crumble beneath her, leaving Annie stuck on a single rock. But her stomping also creates a large canyon that Jessica and Marcus can't cross, forcing them to call for help.
