~ Ansel ordering his son Garrett to poison Nevermore’s punch ball.

Ansel Gates is a minor antagonist in Season 1 of the 2022 Netflix TV show Wednesday. He and his family were the descendants of early 17th-century Pilgrims and Jericho founder Joseph Crackstone and were born into great wealth. He is the father of Garrett and Laurel Gates.

Back in 1990, on Nevermore’s prom ball night, he ordered Garrett to break in the school to poison the punch with Nightshade poison, however it’s a total disaster : Garrett is killed and his death therefore marks the demise of the Gates family.

He is portrayed by Philip Rosch, who also voiced Arthur Edwards in the Hitman: World of Assassination trilogy.

Biography[]

Background[]

Not much is known about Ansel’s past, but he is presumably a direct descendant of British pilgrim Joseph Crackstone, of the one pilgrims to sets up in America. But when he and his followers arrived in the New World, in the current territory of the US Vermont’s state, they discovered that there was already people who was living there, people with supernatural abilities, such as vampires, shapeshifters, psychics among others. A fanatic religious man, Crackstone ordered the mass genocide of outcasts to erase them and was very joyful of these heinous acts until he was killed by a young teenager Goody Addams, after he had Goody’s mother burned alive. She had his corpse locked in his coffin and locked it with a blood lock after she cursed his soul to prevent anyone to resurrect him. Crackstone’s death, however, increased violence between outcasts and average people, the normies. Then started a feud between these two kinds, as Crackstone’s descendants were always trying to eradicate them towards the ages, with the conflict culminating when outcast Nathaniel Faulkner founded outcast school Nevermore Academy on supposedly Crackstone’s lands.

Sometime prior 1990, Ansel married an unnamed that was also a outcast hater and they had two children together: Garrett, born in 1972 and Laurel, born in 1980. They were raised into wealth, Crackstone’s cult and the murderous hate of the outcasts, to eradicate them one day.

1990[]

In 1990, when Garrett was 18 years old and Laurel 10, Ansel became furious after a student from Nevermore, Morticia Frump, complained to the police about Garrett’s harassment and stalking against her, but being an outcast, nobody listened to her. On the night of Nevermore’s prom ball, Ansel ordered Garrett (supposedly to prove he was still his son, probably after Garrett had an unhealthy obsession for Morticia) to break into Nevermore to poison the punch with Nightshade poison to kill every student there. However, Garrett met Morticia kissing her boyfriend Gomez Addams, thus enraging him. He tries to kill Gomez with a sword exposed in the hallway and the fight led them on the roofs. The fights culminated with Garrett almost succeeding to kill Gomez, but Morticia intervened and accidentally stabbed Garrett with the sword and he falls off the roof to land in front of Larissa Weems. Gomez, who actually took the blame to protect Morticia, was charged for his murder but was acquitted afterwards.
