Anshar is a powerful god-like entity and an antagonist in The Real Ghostbusters cartoon series. In Sumerian folklore, Anshar is the master of wind and water. He appears every 1,000 years to do battle with Kishnar to determine who would rule the Earth.
History
Since the two demonic gods were immortal, neither of them can die and as a result, their battles always ended in a tie and in a supreme irony preserved the balance of the Earth.
After untold numbers of unsuccessful attempts to best Kishnar for what must have been eons, Anshar proposed with the idea that if he and Kishnar possessed two mortals and fight to the death, one of them would win.
When the Ghostbusters were stranded on their island, Anshar possessed Peter Venkman and Kishnar possessed Ray Stantz.
Whenever Peter and Ray argued or got mad at one another, they would turn into corporeal manifestations of Anshar and Kishnar. Egon Spengler, Slimer, and Winston Zeddemore saved the day by keeping the two from fighting until sunrise, causing Anshar and Kishnar to go dormant for another millennium.
