Anthony Cross is the main antagonist in the one-thousandth Adventures in Odyssey episode, Kris-Crossed.

He is voiced by Jeremy Guskin.

History[]

Anthony Cross was an old friend of Cooper and former senior student while the latter was a freshman, now he worked for a janitorial service, one of their clients was Jacques Henri and the driving range. He was popular, class president, all-around athlete of major sports, and had scholarship offers in both football and baseball. However, he moved midway through the year and Cooper lost touch with him, his dad also died so he had to grow up and get a job. He fell in with the wrong crowd in his senior, committed a crime, got kicked out of school, lost his scholarship offers, and even served time in prison. In fact, this information became public so people wouldn’t copy his mistakes, one who sent him to jail was Judge Simon Jones.

Barbara Haynes was a member of the Connellsville art society. Her niece was Kris Metcalf, a disabled student at Connellsville Middle School but also great actress. A rival of Barbara, Rogers Caroll, won the annual tri-county art contest at Jacques Henri’s gallery for an egg sliced open with the earth inside. The prize was lots of money and being displayed in famous museum, it was chosen from dozens, it was his fourth time winning. Barbara wanted to smash the sculpture for this as this wasn't the first time she came in second, but of course, she was unwilling to get caught. Cross, who reunited with Cooper, offered to do it for her if she could frame Simon’s daughter, Emily, for something. She was a little hesitant, but she agreed anyway, as it would mean she would win the contest in Rogers’ place.

SuzuRydell

Suzu Rydell, one detective who brought him to justice, albeit some wrong methods.

Simon was up for the reelection of his position, but a scandal would likely stop this, making it revenge on Cross’ part. While he smashed the sculpture while dressed like a ninja, Barbara was at a meeting with the art society’s board of directors, giving her an alibi. She forged a photo of Suzu Rydell and had Kris pretend that she was disabled and that Emily bullied and even assaulted her for not agreeing with her Model U.N. proposal in Connellsville. When the smashed statue was discovered, Anthony claimed he just found it like this.

The plan worked for a while as Emily was suspended and stripped of her student body president title. Principal Vogler also said there was a chance that she might be expelled because many people believed that Simon was covering her when Suzu tried to help by establishing an alibi for her at the Connellsville Middle School Courier. Emily went to the bathroom and her jacket got caught on the stall door and her badge got torn off, Kris found it and used it as proof of the bullying. Originally, she was just put on probation, where she had a damaged reputation (possibly on her permanent record) but still attended school, she did this in order to protect dad's reelection. Suzu refused to let it go, so she published the story, but this led to just what Vogler and Simon feared due to Barbara's forged photo and there was a chance it might end up as a town newspaper story.

Meanwhile, Cooper suspected Barbara as the culprit for the smashed sculpture but didn’t have any evidence. Morrie Rydell desperately tried to help the right way as Emily helped him with Marian Hill. Together they found out Kris and Barbara’s relation, and Suzu saw one of Whit’s movie where two men swapped crimes so the police wouldn’t figure out their motives. The four confronted Anthony and Barbara at the driving range, they also had a video which showed how the culprit who smashed the sculpture matched Anthony playing baseball. Unfortunately, the two laughed, mocking them as they needed proper evidence. They went about their business leaving the team at a loss of what to do.

However, Suzu passed by Barbara’s car and found a receipt for a new smart phone for Kris in her bag. It said “for a job well done” meaning it was a reward for her role in Anthony’s plot. She went to Kris and told her that Barbara confessed to what she did after the police showed her the receipt. Kris was baffled saying it was all their idea and confessed that she only pretended to be bullied. Suzu recorded this and showed the police resulting in Anthony and Barbara’s arrest, though it is unknown what happened to Kris. Emily would be back in school and Odyssey Times would print the whole story. Morrie, however, was outraged that Suzu lied and stole for justice. She was shocked that he said was it not good enough, as he had gotten better than before. Chris Anthony, reciting Mark 8:36, said that what Suzu did was wrong and suggested that Whit taught him well.

Trivia[]

  • Anthony’s last name and Kris Metcalf’s first name are used for the title of the two-part episode they were in. It is also a pun on “criss-crossed”, which is Suzu referred to his and Barbara Haynes’ crime as.
