I am a legitimate businessman and a proud member of my community. Drugs are a scourge and, as a parent, I pride myself in having nothing to do with them.
~ Anthony DeMarco in a TV interview.
DeMarco: I'm coming after you, you motherf-cking murdering b-stard! Me and a hundred angry greaseballs! You're gonna suffer, you motherf-cker!
Passos: Who's that?
Max: Anthony DeMarco, he's the father of the kid I just shot.
Passos: Yeah, that looks about right.
DeMarco: Max Payne! Max Payne! You killed my boy! You killed my ONLY son!
~ Max Payne and Raul Passos observing DeMarco yelling at Max.

Don Anthony DeMarco, Sr. is the overarching antagonist of the 2012 video game Max Payne 3. He is the leader of the New Jersey-based DeMarco Crime Family, and the father of Tony DeMarco.

He was voiced by Ray Iannicelli.

Biography[]

Background[]

Anthony DeMarco was born on September 4th, 1940. At some point, either in the early 80s or 90s, he become the Don of the DeMarco Crime Family, and in 1985, he gave birth to his son Tony DeMarco, and the two had a close relationship with one another. While not initially powerful, after the New York City-based Punchinello Crime Family was, over the course of 2001 through 2003, weakened by former NYPD detective Max Payne, and the concurrent actions of Russian mobster Vladimir Lem's Cleaner commandos, DeMarco took advantage of the power vacuum left behind, and by 2011, he became one of the most powerful mobsters in New Jersey.

Hunting Max Payne[]

In late 2011, Max had killed Tony after witnessing the latter striking a woman in Walton's Bar in Hoboken. DeMarco, who became heartbroken and distraught when learning of this, sent a mobster a hit squad to kill Max out vengeance. Despite the amount of mobsters being sent, Max, with the help of his neighbor Brewer and Raul Passos, a Latino man who came to recruit him to work for the Branco family in Brazil, was able to kill all the hitmen and escape to safety.

A few days later, at a nearby cemetery, Max and Passos, who had come to pay their respects to Max's wife and daughter, were held at gunpoint by mobsters, and the two were taken to a grave site where DeMarco confronted them about Tony's death. While the two men offered their condolences, Passos also told him that Tony had started the fight and got himself killed as a result, and in a fit of rage, DeMarco hit him in the head with a shovel and insulted him with racial slurs. He ordered Max to dig him and Passos's grave before breaking down and sobbing, causing two of his guards to escort him away. Despite the odds, Max and Passos would survive this encounter, and later leave America for Brazil.

Mob war[]

A month after Max escaped to Latin America, a war between the DeMarcos and the Punchinellos had erupted. According to Max and the media, this was not the first time that the two mob families had been at war with each other.

Trivia[]

  • DeMarco is the only antagonist across the Max Payne series to not die at any point.
  • He is also the only antagonist that explicitly survives the events of Max Payne 3. While Serrano possibly could have escaped the destruction of the Imperial Palace Hotel, this is unlikely, due to the short timeframe between him killing Arthur Fischer and the Hotel's destruction.
