~ Scalisi selling out his fellow mobsters. |
Anthony Scalisi is the main antagonist of the Law & Order episode "Everybody's Favorite Bagman". He is an assassin for the Masucci crime family who murders Councilman Charles Halsey to stop him from exposing a kickback scheme between the Masucci family and several corrupt New York City councilmen.
He was portrayed by Paul Guilfoyle, who also portrayed Joe Kresser in Unsub.
Overview[]
Guilfoyle is a hitman for mob boss Frank Masucci. On Masucci's order, he murders Charles Halsey, a New York City councilman who is secretly a bagman for the Masucci family, and who is about to testify about a kickback scheme in city government. Scalisi cuts Halsey's throat, his signature as an assassin.
While Scalisi answers to Masucci, he works most often on behalf of NYPD Deputy Commander William Jefferson, who is in Masucci's pocket.
"Everybody's Favorite Bagman"[]
While investigating Halsey's murder, NYPD Homicide Sergeant Max Greevey and Detective Mike Logan trace a fur coat found at the murder scene to Scalisi, who had ordered it for his mistress, who was also sleeping with Halsey. They also find that Scalisi had been charged before with murders in which the victims' throats were cut and drives the same kind of car that a witness saw near the crime scene the night of the murder.
Greevey and Logan find Scalisi coming home to his apartment building and arrest him, with Scalisi going quietly. He pleads innocent and is granted bail, but nevertheless tries to make a deal with Executive Assistant District Attorney Ben Stone and Assistant District Attorney Paul Robinette to name several public officials working for Masucci, including Jefferson, in return for a lenient prison sentence. Stone tries to get him to testify against Masucci, but Scalisi refuses out of fear for his life. Stone eventually gets Scalisi to agree to wear a wiretap when he meets with the other conspirators in hopes that he records them saying that Masucci ordered the murder.
Stone allows Scalisi to plead guilty to a lesser charge in order to make Masucci think that the investigation has died down. Shortly afterward, Scalisi meets with Jefferson and the other corrupt officials at a restaurant, while Stone, Robinette, and Assistant U.S. Attorney John McCormack listening in from a police van. Scalisi takes money from Jefferson, giving Stone proof of the latter's involvement in the kickback scheme and the murder. Before Stone can arrest the other conspirators, however, another of Masucci's assassins enters the restaurant and shoots Scalisi dead.
