Anthony Sciloso is a minor antagonist of the 1976 psychological thriller, Taxi Driver. He is a mafioso operating in Brooklyn, New York City who is associated with the local pimp, Matthew "Sport" Higgins, who is also an enemy of the vigilante, Travis Bickle.
He was portrayed by the late Bob Maroff.
Biography[]
During the early-to-mid 1970s, Anthony Sciloso became a high-ranking member of an unknown Mafia family and also met the pimp and drug dealer, Charles Rain, who more commonly went under the aliases of Matthew Higgins and "Sport". He became a regular customer for Sport and even became an associate of his gang of pimps. In 1976, Sciloso met the 12-year-old prostitute, Iris Steensma, who had already been manipulated and raped by Sport, in which Sciloso became a frequent customer of Iris' services.
One day, Anthony paid a visit to Sport and paid him in order to have sex with Iris. However while this is happening, local taxi driver-turned-vigilante, Travis Bickle (who had been planning to help rescue Iris from ruining her life) arrives at the brothel and shoots Sport dead, as well as shooting the bouncer's fingers off. Anthony, who hears the commotion pauses his session with Iris and pulls out his gun. As Travis passes by Anthony's room, Anthony enters the hall way and shoots Travis, to which Travis then shoots Anthony six times in the face, killing him.
