Anti Guys are minor albeit extremely dangerous enemies in the video game Paper Mario. Potentially the most powerful type of Shy Guy of all, these Black Shy Guys are employed by Bowser to guard key areas of importance. One serves as an optional miniboss in Shy Guy's Toy Box, while an entire platoon of them serve as emergency guards in Bowser's Castle, again an optional encounter.
Behavior[]
Anti Guys function identically to other standard Shy Guys, the only difference being their outrageous levels of power. Bowser himself seems to acknowledge their strength, using them to guard crucial areas. One Anti Guy in particular, the one guarding a badge in Shy Guy's Toy Box however, is distinctly different from the squad encountered later on. Instead of outright attacking Mario and co., he prefers to threaten Mario off. This Shy Guy even speaks in a notably comical wise guy mobster manner, though he does so in a cutesy style, ending most of his sentences with hearts. He has a severe weakness for Lemon Candy though, and can easily be bribed with one and is quite the glutton for them. The other Anti Guys however do not share this trait, and instantly attack Mario on sight.
Should the player intentionally choose to engage these enemies in battle, they are in for a world of pain. They boast some of the highest damage in the entire series, with enough health to rival the bosses in the later half of the game. While fighting just one of these miniature terrors is a challenge on its own, the Anti Guy Unit is one of the most difficult encounters in the game.

- Anti Guys and the Fly Guys from Yoshi's Story have the distinction of being the only known variants of Shy Guy within the Black Shy Guy subtype.
- Anti Guys return in the Thousand Year Door remake, where they repair the stage nozzles following certain stage events.
