~ Anton Kupchenko's last words. |
Anton Kupchenko, also known as Doctor or Shadow, is the main antagonist of the 2006 videogame Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War. He was a Belkan fighter pilot and a military engineer for his country's Air Force. He is presumed to be the leader and founder of the paramilitary terrorist organization known as A World With No Boundaries.
Biography[]
Past life[]
Anton was born in 1947 in the Belkan Federation. At some point, he joined the Belkan military, becoming a fighter pilot who fought on several battlefields and wars, earning him the nickname "The Gold Woodpecker". He also worked as an engineer for the military, working with the country's weapons and technology research department. He was the director of Project Pendragon, a project which led to the creation of the nuclear weapon known as the V2, which would be used in an attempt to destabilize the global economy.
The economic crisis in 1988 caused Project Pendragon to be cancelled, although the V2 was still successfully made and Anton remained within the Belkan Air Force.
The Belkan War[]
Anton became the leader of the ace squadron Gault Team during the Belkan War, although he and his squadron disappeared from the skies, leading them to be marked as MIA. This is when Anton presumably founded AWWNB, alongside Joshua Bristow and Anthony Palmer, two like-minded Osean aces.
When Galm Team was on a mission to destroy Avalon Dam and prevent the launch of the V2, they cut through Area B7R as a shortcut, but they were engaged by Gault Team, led by Kupchenko himself. After a fierce dogfight, Cipher and PJ managed to get the upper hand despite being heavily outnumbered and managed to shoot down all members in Gault Team, including Anton.
Anton did not survive the encounter as his remains were found alongside his aircraft's wreckage, which were later transported to Belka, and buried in Holtz Public Cemetery.
Personality[]
Anton Kupchenko was not only a skilled ace pilot, but also a highly skilled military engineer, as seen during his time in Project Pendragon. He was also fanatically patriotic to the country of Belka, and has a stern, honor-bound personality, typical from Belkan soldiers at the time. However, he grew to despise politicians, thinking that they are cowardly and disgusting for leaving men to die in combat like nothing, while they get to simply to peace talks.
