Antonio Rodriguez is one of the overarching antagonists (alongside with Mr. Magallanes) in the Filipino TV Series Black Rider.
He is a ruthless crime lord and the leader of a criminal syndicate group known as Pulang Diablo (transl. Red Devils). He is one of the known rivals of Edgardo Magallanes in the underworld, alongside with Rebecca Chen.
He is the biological father of Calvin Magallanes (born Abel Rodriguez), who was responsible in sending him to Edgardo by replacing the biological son of Edgardo, as his way to extract his revenge after Golden Scorpions killed his wife Rosa.
He is portrayed by Jestoni Alarcon.
Background[]
At some point, he organized a criminal syndicate known as Pulang Diablo, and became one of Edgardo Magallanes in the criminal world. One day, after he ordered his men to burn Edgardo’s drug warehouse, Golden Scorpion retaliated by killing almost of his men and his wife Rosa in their territory. He then retaliates to Edgardo by ambushing, Edgardo’s wife, Hilda with their son Calvin and their men. As he was able to corner Hilda leaving her heavily traumatized and injured, he replaced Calvin to his biological son Abel as his way to extract his revenge to Edgardo. Unknown to Edgardo, that he was raising Calvin as Abel Rodriguez, son of his greatest rival. After his first plan of revenge, he escapes Philippines and lie low in an unknown country.
He later returns to the Philippines and continues his criminal activities, as his goal to win over the criminal world against the Golden Scorpion. One night he crossed path with Calvin, after driving drunk caused by a heated argument with Edgardo ending up crashing Calvin’s car nearby his home. He later confirms that Calvin and his son, and persuaded Calvin to come home with him. However, Calvin is adamant to his plan that he will be the next leader of Golden Scorpion. As he learns that his son Calvin, was killed by Black Rider, the lost son of his rival , he hatched a plan the father and son clash by framing up the Black Rider that he killed Edgardo’s wife Hilda.
Shortly after Golden Scorpion has fallen, he confirms that Calvin’s corpse was fake as his men dig Calvin’s grave. Confirming that Calvin’s corpse buried was fake given to Edgardo, he learns that Rebecca Chen was responsible for keeping Calvin. His men invaded Rebecca’s hideout to retrieve his son Calvin, only to be ceased by Senator William Romero, revealing to be his former accomplice in the police force. With this clash and connection with Sen. William, he formed an alliance with Rebecca Chen as they dominate over Golden Scorpion. Upon retrieving his son, Calvin he helps Calvin by training him intensely with discipline. Unknown to him. Calvin is using him to gain influence and power as one of his plot to extract his vengeance to Elias.
Days later, after the exposure of Sen. William’s involvement in Golden Socrpion, he participated with Sen. William’s forces in ambushing Madam President and Elias Guerrero to prevent them confessing in the public about Sen.William’s atrocities. He managed to corner the president and attempted to kill her, however he failed to kill her as Elias was able to fire his men causing him to retreat.
Later on he continued supporting Sen. William and continued to run their empire until Elias and Golden Scorpion raided Sen. William’s mansion during a party. During the shootout, he was outnumbered by Golden Scorpion and he was saved by his younger brother Alvaro Rodriguez. With Alvaro’s attempt to help him escape from Golden Scorpion, the latter managed to abduct him. Trapped on the hands of Edgardo and Elias, he was seriously beaten in order for him to confess about the whereabouts of the real son of Edgardo and how Vanessa ended up staying with Sen. William. However, he attempted to escape from the Golden Scorpion upon taking Nimfa as a hostage which resulted his death wherein Golden Scorpion shot him in attempt to rescue Nimfa.
Personality[]
Being a criminal, he is shown to be merciless individual that he is shown that he is capable of killing his enemy, without even a doubt. It is implied that he has a criminal mindset, as he is intelligent enough to commit crimes just to have a power.
As a husband, he is shown to be loving and caring individual as he weeps all over to his dying wife, and proved himself that he will be extracting his vengeance to fight for their downfall. After this incident, he is mostly shown about thinking some vengeance and do something mercilessly, just to extract his vengeance for his wife’s death thanks to Edgardo’s men.
As a father, the fatherly quality that is shown is that he is willing to do everything just to retrieve Calvin back to him from Edgardo, despite that Calvin is adamant for being the next leader of Golden Scorpion. With his fatherhood to Calvin, similarly to Edgardo he nurtures Calvin in hostile fashion by tormenting him due to their criminalistic nature and they both see Calvin to be very weak to be a criminal due to his wrathful and egotistical behavior.

- The scene where he trained Calvin humiliating him is somehow reused on how Elias was trained by Mariano.
- His daughter Angela who played Allison Flores in Magandang Dilag, later in Black Rider played Aileen aside for her father's antagonist role.
