The Ants, also known as the Mutant Ants, are the main antagonists in Glass Trap.
They started out as normal insects, but mutated in size when they were exposed to radiation matter.
Biography[]
As the movie begins, we open on Sierra Gardens Nursery where plants are being sold. Something is hiding behind some plants, watching the workers. A man, Miguel, approaches the plants, and is suddenly killed. The manager then wanders around looking for him, and another person, Charlie.
Meanwhile, a truck is loaded with some plants and drives away. A title card shows that it's Saturday. The vehicle arrives at the Waldman building, where Joan Highsmith arrives along with Sharon. They find Jack Warner, a security guard, and a janitor named Curtis. The ladies are working on the weekend.
The plants are brought into the building lobby and back at the nursery, the manager is discussing Miguel with the police head, Sheriff Ed. The USDA sends an agent, Elizabeth, to investigate a legally important matter about flora and traced several shipments to the nursery. The two come across a stretcher that has a dead body, which was eaten by something. Elizabeth sees it and faints. We see a name tag on the body saying "Miguel".
Back at the building, a car arrives with two more characters. Dennis needs something from his office, and brought his daughter Carly with him despite her protests that he promised not to work. He justifies himself by saying that it's very important. Seeing that she's frustrated he passes her a gift, which happens to contain a radio, which changes her mood significantly. As Dennis waits for the elevator, we see some liquid dripping onto the truck that brought the plants in the first place, and blood is on the floor.
In the lobby, the guard is watching a show about giant ants that attack Earth. He's being watched from the plants and just as he tries to investigate them, a man surprises him. The new arrival is a photographer and his friend, with two ladies, intending to perform a shoot on the rooftop. They are Paolo, Sam, Mila and Lulu.
Up in the office, Joan and Sharon are busy, with the former saying they would probably be there overnight and asking the latter to make coffee. They run into Curtis. A power problem soon follows, with some lights shorting out from time to time.
Meanwhile, Dennis arrives in his office to copy some files onto a disc. He too experiences electrical problems, but the computer continues functioning. Joan phones the security desk to ask about the power outage, and the guard asks a maintenance man, Hank, to look into it. Hank checks out the main breaker.
Upstairs, Sharon is making coffee and we suddenly see that something's watching her from a drainage pipe in the floor. While trying to figure out how much sugar Joan would want, she drops the jar of sugar cubes when the lights flicker on and off again. One of the cubes drops into the drainage pipe and she picks up the cubes that fell on the floor. Although she tries to decipher what exactly is inside the pipes, she can't and forgets about it.
In his office, Dennis is struggling with power issues, although his computer is working fine when Curtis suddenly knocks and enters. While cleaning the office, Curtis sees a disc emerge from the computer and, curious, approaches the terminal, where he sees the message 'Copy complete'. Suddenly, Dennis, who was hiding at the side, strikes him with a duck statue, knocking him out. The man then gathers his valuables and leaves.
In the garage, Hank tries to fix the electrical systems and is shocked at something. We then cut to see Sharon still figuring out how much sugar Joan would want when the drainage vent behind her is forced off. She turns and sees a large ant emerge. Back upstairs, Dennis is waiting for the elevator despite the electrical issues, and one arrives for him.
We go back to Hank, who radios the security desk and reports that the wires were cut, and there's no sign of corrosion. He tells the guard that they were chewed through and while discussing how to report this to Joan, Hank is devoured. We then see Carly waiting in the car and the garage experiences a power issue again.
The power to the whole building then shuts down, and the emergency generator kicks in. This causes the lift to malfunction, trapping Dennis. Meanwhile, Joan is playing golf in her office when she too sees the lights go off. Although she tries to phone the main desk, she is presumably unable to contact them and chooses to find Sharon. She goes to the kitchen, armed with her golf club, and tells Sharon that they should go to a restaurant but then sees a huge ant drinking the coffee, which was spilled. She ends up clubbing the ant and kills it. They exit the kitchen but find more insects, forcing them to use the sugar jar as a decoy. The two escape on the stairs.
Back at the nursery, the manager still hasn;t found Charlie. He allows Elizabeth to look around. In the stairwell, Joan and Sharon get stuck when they see ants approaching from below. They soon get cornered, with more insects on the stairs above. They resort to banging on the door and shouting. In Dennis' office, Curtis recovers and as he moves away he hears a commotion. He opens the door and the two ladies escape, but an ant tries to barge its way in. Curtis closes the door, which decapitates the insect.
At the nursery, Elizabeth is talking to somebody about insects and a bite radius. She encounters a plant with leaves that have some unknown liquid, and tries to take it as a sample. Suddenly, she falls down and sees a dead body on the ground, causing her to pass out. The manager and some workers hear her scream, at which point they realise she found Charlie, who was also eaten.
In the building, Jack tries to contact Hank but can't get a response. He places a sign on the desk 'Back in 5 minutes' and goes off. Curtis then calls Hank, but also cannot hear anything. The ladies and Curtis are then seen in Dennis' office, where the janitor finds a pistol. He passes it to Joan, who claims she was the member of a gun club. In the elevator, Dennis tries to use his phone but realises there's no service. He then attempts to climb out from the elevator roof, but an ant attacks him and injures his leg. He kills it by impaling it with a pen.
The ladies and Curtis then get into an argument about what to do. The janitor decides to go to the roof using the elevator shaft and Sharon goes with him, while Joan uses the stairwell. At the nursery, a forensics agent is looking at the dead bodies and finds formic acid on both the corpses. Although Elizabeth and the sheriff are both confused, he explains they were eaten by ants.
Meanwhile, Jack arrives in the garage looking for Hank and finds ant saliva on the fence, as well as a pool of blood with a name tag that belongs to Hank. Some ants approach him and he only barely makes it to Dennis' car, where Carly lets him in. Curtis and Sharon pry open the elevator doors, whereupon Curtis hears Dennis shouting for help and rescues him. They open the doors, but then an ant detects them and calls for its allies. They escape using the elevator roof. Although the insects pursue them, the ants get killed and we see Joan had shot them.
