Antwan Hovachelik is the main antagonist of 20th Century Studios' 2021 action-comedy film Free Guy.

He is the egotistical, money-hungry, and narcissistic founder and CEO of Soonami Studios, who stole the idealistic codes for the enhancement of the fictional open world video game "Free City". His name is a phonetic misspelling of "Antoine", the French variation for "Anthony".

He was portrayed by Taika Waititi, who also played Viago Heimburg in What We do in the Shadows, Surtur in Thor: Ragnarok, Adolf Hitler in Jojo Rabbit, IG-11 in The Mandalorian, Ratcatcher in The Suicide Squad, and himself in The Simpsons.

Biography

Little is known about Antwan other than he is the founder and CEO of Soonami, and his games had major successes in the past. This likely caused him to develop the egomaniacal and narcissistic personality he had in the film.

During the film, Antwan became aware of Guy's popularity and orders his staff to get rid of him in order to turn Free City 2 into a hit.

Antwan orders Keys and Mouser to reboot the entire server, but Keys refuses and gets fired. Guy loses his memory after the reboot, but all of his data is restored after Molotov Girl kisses him.

As Guy and Millie persuade other NPCs in the game that they're more than programming, Antwan attempts to shut down the game, with Mouser assisting him. Antwan then sends Dude, a muscular yet dimwitted variant of Guy which is developed for Free City 2 into the game, but Guy is able to befriend him. Antwan personally goes down to the server room and start destroying the servers with an axe, but Guy makes it to the island in time. Antwan tries to smash the last server anyway out of spite. When it comes to the final server, Millie shows up and shows the footage that Guy made it to the original build. She convinces him to return the code and the property to her and Keys by letting him keep the rights to Free City.

Sometime later, Lara Spencer reports that the sales of Free City 2 go downhill due to the reports of bugs in the system and lagging online play. Antwan ends up embattled and in the hot seat. He was last seen on the news being loaded into his limo by the security staff as he rants to the paparazzi that he's a victim. Keys, Mouser, and Millie start a new company with the recovered code to release Free Life, bringing Guy, Buddy, Dude, and the Free City NPCs into it.

Personality

Antwan is a classic example of a business executive who values profits and intellectual property more than the people who make them. He is arrogant, selfish, cruel, egotistical, apathetic, greedy and ruthless. As the founder and CEO of Soonami, he centers the entire business around himself, whilst doing little to nothing in regards to game development or helping employees with any problems they may have. Not only that, but Antwan tends to claim credit for everything Soonami has done, brushing the actual developers aside. He's also perfectly content with destroying their lives' work if it meant increased profits, as he was planning to do with Free City when the sequel was coming out.

Antwan is so loathsome that he is despised by virtually everyone at Soonami. Mouser, in particular, remained loyal to Antwan but was agitated by his egocentric lifestyle, so much that he warned Keys about his impending first arrival. In his first appearance, he casually fires an employee for no reason other than to amuse himself, showing how little he values Soonami's workers. It is not until Antwan's thievery is exposed that Mouser finally stands up to him and refuses to give him the location of Free City's servers.

Overall, his money-hunger, as well as his disregard for his employees and sentient NPCs were proved to be his downfall after he was exposed for stealing the code from Life Itself, and will likely face jail sentences.

With the exception of the climax where he destroyed nearly all of the servers, he is, however, never seen without comical and bumbling moments as he always makes pop culture references and calls people "bro" and "dude" numerous times.
