Antwon Mitchell is a major antagonist in the FX series The Shield. He is a ruthless drug kingpin who is the main antagonist of Season 4, the secondary antagonist of Season 5 and a background antagonist for the remainder of the series.

He was played by Anthony Anderson.

Season 4

After being sentenced to a thirteen year prison term for drug trafficking, Antwon is released on probation and begins to style himself as a positive role model for the black community in Farmington. However, unbeknownst to many, he has resumed drug trafficking and is flooding Farmington with black tar heroin.

Detective Shane Vendrell, attempting to emulate his former mentor Vic Mackey, actively attempts to partner with Mitchell. With Shane on Mitchell's payroll, he and his partner, Army Renta, help Mitchell eliminate his rivals and ultimately become head of the One-Niners gang. Mitchell grows impatient with Shane, as he wants to assert his dominance.

Mitchell and his goons force Shane to watch as he murders Angie Stubbs, an 11 year-old police informant. He uses the body to blackmail the two into murdering Vic, whom Mitchell sees as the biggest threat to his drug business. However, instead of listening to Antwon, Vendrell asks for Mackey's help. After finding the girl's body with a hidden camera, they catch footage of Mitchell restating his offer of "a body for a body." This ultimately forces Mitchell to plead guilty to the girl's murder and attempting to order the death of a police officer.

Antwon is once again incarcerated, but begins to think of ways to get out of his sentence. He helps David Aceveda kill fellow inmate Juan Lozano, and then attempts to use information regarding the inner workings of a Salvadoran drug cartel to cut a DEA immunity deal. However, the deal is ultimately voided when Mitchell's nemesis, Captain Monica Rawling, sacrifices her job by bringing down the Salvadorans herself, making sure that Mitchell never gets a chance to leave prison.

Season 5

Antwon returns as the secondary antagonist of the fifth season, this time pulling the strings from prison. He has been in prison for roughly six months, and in that time has become a very powerful prisoner. Antwon has not only started to effectively run the prison, but has gotten special treatment from the guards and is even attempting to run a drug ring and re-organize the One-Niners.

Antwon is visited by Internal affairs Lieutenant John Kavanaugh, who makes a deal with Antwon to give up information on the Strike Team in exchange for their incarceration at his prison. However, Antwon double-crosses Kavanaugh and makes a separate deal with Vic to provide financial assistance for the One Niners in exchange for Curtis Lemansky's protection in prison.

The deal goes through, but only pulls in a small haul of cash. Upset at having been betrayed by Mitchell, Kavanaugh launches an investigation into the prison system which ruins much of Antwon's plans. Enraged, Mitchell declares the deal off and vows that he will have Lemansky murdered, no matter which prison he is sent to.

Season 6

“	You ever heard of Antwon Mitchell? He was the leader of a black gang called the One-Niners. Shane and he did some business last year. Some heat came down, and an innocent 14 year-old girl got killed. Now Mitchell's spending the rest of his life behind bars.	„

Antwon is briefly seen in season 6 when Vic visits him in prison. As Lemansky had recently been killed by Shane, Vic is certain that Antwon was behind it, as he had made a deal with Kavanaugh, and had previously stated his intent to kill Lem. Antwon admits that, while he wanted to be the one to order Lem's death, he was not the one behind his death. Antwon then gloats to Vic because he knew that he was Vic's only suspect.

Vic talks to Diro Kesakian about Shane's history with Antwon in an attempt to get Diro to not trust Shane.

Season 7

A recurring line for the season is referring to prison as "Antwon Mitchell-ville", suggesting that whatever prison the Strike Team goes to will be the same prison Antwon is held at, which will likely mean a death sentence for any cop sent there.
