~ Marzin bragging about killing Carolyn

Anzor Marzin is the main antagonist of the 2015 film Secret In Their Eyes, a remake of the Argentine 2010 film of the same name. He is a Turkish terrorist and wannabe police officer who murders Jess Cobb's daughter, Carolyn Cobb. It is based on Isidoro Gómez.

He is portrayed by British actor Joe Cole.

Biography[]

Marzin is an ancillary member of a Turkish terrorist cell who volunteers to inform on his co-conspirators because he wants to be a police officer. Desiring Marzin's intel, FBI agent Reggie Siefer humors him by taking him along to a law enforcement picnic, where Marzin sees counterterrorism agent Jess Cobb's teenage daughter Carolyn and becomes obsessed with her. Marzin follows Carolyn around until he works up the nerve to ask her out; when she rejects him, he flies into a rage and rapes and murders her.

Cobb and her colleague Ray Kasten track Carolyn's killer obsessively until they find Marzin, whom District Attorney Martin Morales is protecting because he wants to use him to take down the terror cell. Nevertheless, Kasten and his partner Bumpy Willis track Marzin to a Mets game and arrest him. Assistant District Attorney Claire Sloan provokes Marzin by saying that he is neither smart nor well-endowed enough to have committed the crime; Marzin exposes himself to prove his manhood, and threatens to rape Sloan, saying she will "get what [Carolyn] got". While the evidence against him is damning, Marzin is released thanks to Morales' political machinations, and Siefer destroys Marzin's van, where he murdered Carolyn, to get rid of the evidence. On his way home, Marzin shares an elevator with Kasten and Cobb, and smiles cruelly at them. Shortly afterward, he disappears.

Thirteen years later, Kasten finds a car thief named Clay Beckwith who he is convinced is Marzin living under an alias. The investigation eventually leads to a shootout with Beckwith in which Siefert is killed. Beckwith and his gang are arrested, but Cobb insists that Beckwith is not Marzin. Kasten and Sloan meet with Cobb at her isolated farmhouse, where she says she killed Marzin shortly after Morales released him.

The next day, however, Kasten remembers that Cobb said she would want her daughter's killer to suffer rather than die, and goes back to her farm. There, he discovers that Cobb has kept Marzin prisoner for 13 years in a small cell in her barn, keeping him alive but refusing to interact with him; she wants him to live a long, miserable life without human contact. Marzin begs Kasten to tell Cobb to talk to him, but Kasten turns his back on him in disgust, and leaves Cobb with his firearm while he digs a makeshift grave in her backyard. Moments later, he hears a gunshot, indicating that she has finally killed Marzin.
