Biography[]
Years prior to the story, Aoi was once an instructor in Konoha who manipulated his pupil Idate into looting a secret scroll and the Sword of the Thunder God, a weapon once used by Tobirama Senju. The two were fleeing to Amegakure when Ibiki and two ANBU ambushed them. Aoi murdered the ANBU and tortured Ibiki into reading the scroll. The two brothers managed to escape while Aoi later became a jonin in Amegakure.
In the present, Aoi and Team Oboro are hired by Kyūroku Wagarashi to sabotage Idate from winning the Land of Tea race. Even though Aoi ambushed messengers en-route to get help, one managed to alert Konoha of the dire situation of the Wasabi clan. Actually, Aoi wasn't doing it for them but for himself.
During the race, Aoi ordered Team Oboro to trail Idate. Although Idate and his team managed to escape the boat, Aoi ambushed them on the island. He broke Idate's arm and poisoned him with senbon daggers. When Naruto's team came to the rescue, Aoi claimed that outcome of a jonin being victorious was still the same. Aoi used his Senbon Shower on the team, yet they survived thanks to antidote given by Tsunade.
Midway through the race, Aoi warned Fukusuke that if he threatened him again, he would break him. At the bridge, Aoi ambushed Idate's party again with the Sword of the Thunder God and cut the ropes, rendering the bridge useless. He managed to shock Idate and block Sasuke's Chidori, but not without getting the Sword of the Thunder God cracked by the strike. During this clash, Aoi would taunt Sasuke, claiming the Uchiha Clan wasn't as powerful as he was led to believe. Sakura managed to save Sasuke from falling, then Naruto finished the rogue ninja with the Rasengan; The Sword of the Thunder God broke under the pressure and Aoi was blown into the canyon to his death. Despite a victory, Aoi's battle with Sasuke and his taunts would be one of the catalysts for Sasuke's defection from the Leaf Village.
