The Aparoid Queen is the main antagonist of the 2005 third-person shooter game Star Fox: Assault.
She is the hive mind, leader, and center of the Aparoid race, who seeks to assimilate all life forms to become one with her hive, believing that only by assimilating living beings can she and her species evolve throughout the galaxy. Her main priority throughout the Aparoid invasion is to remove all resistance to her rule, be it through assimilation or the destruction of those who oppose her, so that she and her species may rule the universe. During the Aparoid invasion, she sent thousands of Aparoid troops to absorb all technology and life in the Lylat system. The Aparoid Queen was killed by an anti-Aparoid bomb created by Beltino Toad and Cornerian Federation scientists after being weakened by Team Star Fox.
She was voiced by Alésia Glidewell, who also serves as the voice of Krystal in the game.
Description[]
Appearance[]
The Aparoid Queen is a large insectoid creature with organic and mechanical properties. The design is inspired by a hybrid of insects and robotic elements, making it strike and alien. This is often described by dark, cold exterior and various accessories that represent technology and the ability to assimilate organic materials.
Personality[]
As the leader of the Aparoids, the Queen extends her control over her subjects. She commands with absolute authority and her will is carried out immediately by the Aparoid forces. This centralized control makes for a powerful opponent, as its damage is essential to defeating the Aparoid threat. Cold is defined by an unyielding belief in the duty to assimilate nature and all life. She embodies a mindless mentality, seeing herself and her Aparoid minions as a single entity with the ultimate goal of global domination. The queen shows a cruel and domineering desire to mount a strong attack and deploy her forces to conquer and dominate the Lylat system. She shows no mercy and compassion to her enemies, seeing them only as obstacles to be overcome or assimilated into his collective.
The Aparoid Queen is highly manipulative, using psychological tactics to demoralize his opponents. She often speaks in an assimilated voice, to deceive and undermine the Star Fox team by questioning the deception and fate of their companions. The Queen believes that assimilation into the Aparoid collective is a form of evolution, not just infection. She sees her actions as a benevolent force to improve and enhance life through integration into the Aparoid network.
Overall, Queen Aparoid is a mixture of tyrannical passion and a deep belief in the superiority of her species' lifestyle, which leads to relentless assimilation and control.
Biography[]
The queen makes her nest at the core of the Aparoid homeworld. She continues to spawn Aparoids, and they continue to multiply as long as she exists. When there were enough Aparoids to begin the first step of her plan for assimilation, she attacked the Lylat System, sending thousands of troops into battle for the purpose of assimilation. The first time we see these Aparoids in action, it is when one of the Aparoid moths shot down Andrew Oikonny, one of the last survivors of Andross' army and one of Andross' few descendents (specifically, his nephew), but they could not defeat Star Fox before they managed to retreat, having collected a Core Memory in the process from a destroyed Aparoid. Fox, Falco, Krystal, and Slippy battled the Aparoids, who had assimilated Fox's enemy, Pigma Dengar. When Fox destroyed him, he took a core memory that he stole, which revealed the location of the Aparoid Homeworld. Slippy's father, Beltino, having discovered their vulnerability to apoptosis, created a self-destruct program that if used on the queen would destroy her and all of the Aparoids.
Before the creation of the self-destruct program, the Aparoids invaded Sauria, killing many dinosaurs including ThornTails and several other tribes, and invaded Corneria, destroying most of the Cornerian Fleet. Sauria's invasion was more of a distraction for Corneria's invasion. They nearly assimilated General Pepper, forcing him to fight Fox, but he survived.
Star Fox and Star Wolf battled Aparoids all the way to the core of the homeworld, but Wolf's team were forced to distract an extremely powerful Aparoid to give Fox a chance to get to the core and battle the queen. Once the Star Fox team arrived in the core, the Aparoid Queen imitated the voices of Pigma Dengar, Peppy O'Hare, General Pepper, James McCloud, and R.O.B., in order to try and discourage the Star Fox team from resisting her and the Aparoids, but Fox and the team were not fooled (thanks to Fox remembering Wolf's advice from earlier: "Don't hesitate. When the time comes, just act!") The Star Fox team then defeated her in battle, which allowed Fox to launch the self-destruct program into her. However, the Aparoid Queen managed suppress it temporarily and escaped from the core, in order to try and create an antibody. Fox, Falco, Slippy, and Krystal all chased after, and subsequently defeated, the Aparoid Queen once more, weakening her so that she could no longer suppress the self-destruct program, resulting in the Aparoid Queen's destruction. With the destruction of the Aparoid Queen, along with seemingly all other Aparoids in existence, the Aparoid species was exterminated, and their terror across the universe was ended, thanks to the efforts of both the Star Fox and Star Wolf teams.

Trivia[]
- When the Aparoid Queen says, "We are the last," she implies that she will be speaking through the Pygmy.
- Aparaoid queens imitate assimilated Aparaoids whether they survive or not. However, James McCloud was killed by Andross before the Aparoid attack, and it is not known that the Aparoids approached his body. It's not clear how the Aparoid Queen was able to impersonate him, though she may be able to use the memories of R.O.B., General Pepper, and/or Pigma Dengar. Despite producing many drones and leading them to spread throughout the Lylat system to absorb life forms and provide information to themselves, the fact that one of the Aparoids was able to receive information about James McCloud from the infected, as well as the possibility of using that information, supports it. this theory.
- Given the importance of the Aparoid Queen to the time warp and the plot and the survival of the race, it's safe to assume that the Aparoid is the same Aparoid that destroyed the Korner fleet seventeen years prior to the game.
- In addition, the Queen's first form, with her armor removed, closely resembles the Winged Aparoid image (the same form as the Battle Against Fortune form).
- Although called a woman, Falco mistakenly says that the queen is a man ("Attention everyone! He is up to something!"), which actually cannot be male or female, but a hermaphrodite, implying that Aisyah is capable of reproducing herself.
