Aphrodite is a supporting antagonist in the manga/anime series Record of Ragnarok.

Aphrodite is the Greek Goddess of Love, Beauty, Lust, Pleasure, Passion and Procreation, and also one of the Twelve Gods of Olympus and one of the major advocates for the extermination of Humanity in the Gods' Council.

She is voiced by Rie Tanaka, who has also voiced Bela Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Village, Mars in Pokémon, One in Drakengard 3, Kiara Sessyoin in Fate/Grand Order: Epic of the Remnant and Fate/Extra CCC, Konoe A. Mercury in BlazBlue and Nomura in Higurashi When They Cry, in the Japanese dubbed version of the anime adaptation. She is voiced by Reba Buhr in the English dub.

Appearance[]

Aphrodite has the appearance of a beautiful woman, with a face of supernatural beauty and shoulder-length blond hair decorated with flowers, as well as large blue eyes. Her figure is extremely voluptuous, with very large breasts and wide hips. She wears traditional Greek clothes that barely cover her nipples, butt and private parts, as well as lots of gold jewelry such as bracelets and beads.

She is assisted at all times by her golem-like minions, whom she uses as a chair and bearers of her enormous breasts.

Personality[]

Aphrodite is just as lustful as her charge holds, and it showed when she unabashedly enjoyed Adam's naked appearance during the Second Round of Ragnarok. However, Aphrodite also has a haughty attitude and is a considerable misanthrope despite her mastery over love and procreation.

She became so displeased with the Humans' environmental pollution, animal culling and propensity for conflict over the years that she voted for the destruction of Humanity at the Gods' Council. Aphrodite can't stand impudence against the Gods at all, as she demonstrated when she became very enraged after seeing Buddha betray the Gods in favor of Humanity. Despite her frivolous and simplistic nature, Aphrodite is interested in the history of the Gods, and when she discovers that someone knows more than she does, she becomes quite intrigued.

Biography[]

Aphrodite is the Greek Goddess of Beauty belonging to the Twelve Gods of Olympus. During the Gods' Council of the 2000 B.C., during which the Gods decide to spare Humanity, Aphrodite suggests that they still give the Humans a punishment as they are becoming violent, especially those of Thebes. Loki agrees with her and Shiva offers to go and punish them personally, but in the end it is Ares who goes there claiming that Thebes is in his jurisdiction.

In the Gods' Council of the XXI Century Aphrodite is the first, together with Shiva, to propose the extermination of Humanity, as they have destroyed the planet in the last millennia. The sentence is accepted by the Gods, who unanimously vote for the extermination of Humanity, but before Zeus can validate it, Brunhilde intervenes, who convinces the Gods to give Humans one last chance to prove they are worthy of surviving: the Ragnarok Tournament.

Struck in pride, the Gods accept the Ragnarok Tournament and Aphrodite remains on the sidelines to attend all the Rounds of the competition, commenting little and limiting herself to showing joy, anger or sadness for the results of the matches. At the end of the First Round, Aphrodite admits that she hasn't felt this horny in whole millennia, shows that she appreciates Adam naked in the Second Round and becomes very angry when Buddha decides to betray the Gods and side with the Humans during the Sixth Round.

However, when the Twelfth Round arrives, with the score at 6-5 for the Humans and the fight between Sakata Kintoki for the Humans and Odin for the Gods underway, Aphrodite becomes curious when she hears from Kintoki that Odin was once a Nameless God and that he is the sole survivor of Gǫllnir's People.

Powers and Abilities[]

Divine Physiology: As a Goddess, Aphrodite possesses physical abilities far beyond those of any ordinary Human and her body cannot be harmed by deadly weapons. However, she can be injured and killed by physical attacks with superhuman strength or by Divine Weapons. As one of the Twelve Gods of Olympus, Aphrodite is an important Deity within the Greek Pantheon, making her quite powerful.

Divine Beauty and Semi-Immortality: Being the Goddess of Love, Aphrodite is far more beautiful and attractive than most mortals and Gods. Also, as a Goddess, Aphrodite has an unlimited lifespan, does not age and is unable to die of old age. Thanks to this, Aphrodite will almost certainly keep her youthful appearance forever.

Divine Strength: While not as powerful as the other Gods, especially those in the Gods Fighters, Aphrodite possesses immense physical strength. She is at least stronger than her own minions, as they had a hard time holding her back when Aphrodite got angry at Buddha's betrayal during the Sixth Round.

Trivia[]

  • Before the fight between Raiden Tameemon and Shiva in the Fifth Round, a bunch of prize money banners were shown parading their banners around the ring. One of these banners was advertising an establishment called Aphrodite Beauty Salon. The relationship between Aphrodite and this beauty salon is unknown.
  • During the Sixth Round of the anime adaptation, Aphrodite does not grow furious at Buddha for his betrayal: she is rather lustful during the first half of the Round and is the only one who seems entertained at Zerofuku's actions.
  • In the original plans for Record of Ragnarok, Aphrodite was part of the Gods Fighters, but was eventually replaced by Buddha before the start of the series.
