Note: Most of what is known about Apollo Engineering is speculative.
Apollo Engineering or AE for short are the overarching antagonists of the early access Dinosaur survival game The Isle. The are a Genetics corporation that brought dinosaurs back to life on the titular island as well as being responsible for the creation of the strains that infect various dinosaurs and cause them to become unstoppable killing machines.
Backstory[]
Apollo Engineering (abbreviated as AE) is a large bioengineering corporation that got its start in agricultural research, likely due to an unmentioned in-world scenario. This later developed into a pharmaceutical company. After this point, the information put out has been very inconclusive (very definitive lack of dates, timeframes, chronological order of events, ETC). AE is a subsidiary of the larger Apollo corporation. Other known subsidiaries are Apollo Red, Apollo Pharmaceuticals North, and Mercury Beneficial. The larger Apollo corporation is international and so important that they are required to provide services or risk the collapse of the stability of civilization. Breaking contracts with AE can end in expatriation. Firearms manufactured by ‘GRADIC Customs.’
Some time after shifting into pharmaceutical research, they somehow progressed into the production (replication) of various species, thus, the creation of paleontological assets, primarily dinosaurs and other prehistoric reptiles. AE also acquired various large islands and bases, designating most of them for testing and research purposes. The early development of "perfected" humanoids also began, such as Generation 1, followed by the Eyeless, and Generation 2. During this timeframe, the Strains were also developed; assumedly by modifying the genetic material of certain assets into various massive, destructive freaks of nature.
Some sort of large incident occurred, disrupting Apollo Engineering's advancements and experimentation on the islands. Life continued, but it left many of Apollo Engineering's facilities empty and abandoned, left for the remaining habitants of the islands to infiltrate.
It is possible the events of The Isle take place during 1990s-2000s.
Strains[]
Strains are genetically-enhanced creatures, designed to be as deadly as possible. Their origins are mysterious and left unexplained, though they appear to be somehow linked to the various warehouses and facilities scattered across AE's islands. They were likely created to test medical advances and are used for pharmaceutical purposes.
Currently, three Strain variants exist: Hyperendocrin (Type-H), Neurotenic (Type-N), and Tissoplastic (Type-T), though some have been left unconfirmed and the possibility that more Strains exist remains.
Hyperendocrin:[]
Designed to kill with sheer brute force, Type-H dinosaurs are massive, fast, loud, and starving. Their insatiable hunger drives them to slaughter and consume entire herds of dinosaurs, while their super-regeneration and bulletproof skin makes any form of retaliation useless. The only known reliable way to kill a Type-H dinosaur is to starve it out; increased metabolism leads to inevitable starvation.
Traits:[]
- Massive increase in size
- Super regeneration
- Giant health boost
- Thick armor
- Insatiable appetite
Species:[]
- Type-H Tyrannosaurus
- Type-H Giganotosaurus
- Type-H Carnotaurus
- Type-H Spinosaurus
- Type-H Colossus
- Type-H Utahraptor (unconfirmed)
Neurotenic:[]
Failed Type-N Spinosaurus concept art
Possessing a veiny and almost slimy appearance, Type-N dinosaurs have extremely powerful brains - so powerful in fact, that the energy emitted from their own nervous systems can read the minds and memories of other nearby creatures. The Type-N mastermind also is capable of mimicking voices it has heard, with the voices heard in transmissions are from already deceased individuals that are now being used as lures, similar to that of a siren's song. One or multiple Type-T's have also been noted to be able to control the weather itself around the island too.
Traits (not yet reconfirmed):[]
- Enhanced size
- Telepathic communication
- Sound mimicry
- Can release a huge blast of bioelectricity, creating an EMP
- Can blur the vision of other creatures through intense electrical presence. Dinosaurs which are close to it get a "visual snow" on their screens
Species:[]
- Type-N mastermind (also referred as "The Mother of Cannibals" and "Echidna")
- Type-N spinosaurus
Type-T Carnotaurus Art - Tapwing
Tissoplastic:[]
Impossibly sharp and horrifyingly stealthy, Type-T dinosaurs are as silent as they are lethal. Staying unseen through impeccable camouflage, they slice their victims with extreme precision. Oftentimes spiny and aerodynamic appearance, as well as being smaller than its regular counterparts; possibly able to regenerate lost or destroyed limbs. Connected to The Matriarch in some way.
Traits:[]
- Enhanced mobility
- Camouflage ability
- Extreme regeneration
Species:[]
- Type-T Reaper
Other Assets[]
The Matriarch:[]
Typhoeus Matriarch Stage 6/final - Tapwing
A rapidly evolving creature that can intake biomass and reproduce certain physical properties. Starts incredibly small, ends incredibly large. It is linked with the Tissoplastics, but not the same. Possibly a similar issue to Hyperendocrine where it cannot maintain its size when fully grown. The Matriarch also has concept art by Tapwing, who drew it having 6 stages before the final image (on the left) where it then was found alive, but as a massive flesh mass somehow living.
Islandwalker in-game
The Islandwalker (Legacy):[]
Massive creature that travels between islands. Skeleton can found in Titan lake on V3 in Legacy. Not much else is known about this organism except that it was most likely its own strain due to its sheer size, and the look of its skeleton suggesting so.
