“ | Marco… overheard a conversation Bertolt and I were having about something couldn’t be allowed to know. We were afraid of being found out… and we thought the best way to shut him up would be to have a Titan kill him. I… slammed Marco into a roof while in the air. I held him down to keep him from moving… while I made Annie take off his Maneuvering Equipment. Marco was stuck there… Until a Titan came up behind him and ate him. | „ |
~ Reiner Braun revealing Marco’s death to Jean Kirstein. |
The Araki Titan also known as The Titan that ate Marco, was a minor antagonist from the manga and anime Attack on Titan. It was the Titan used by Reiner Braun, Bertolt Hoover and Annie Leonhart to dispose of Marco Bott.
It got its namesake from being designed after the anime director Tetsurō Araki, who worked on Season 1, 2 and 3 of the Attack on Titan anime.
Appearance[]
Pure Titan form[]
It was rather large for a Pure Titan, being presumably around 10-12 meters. The body was rather stocky with a clear potbelly. It had a big and brought head compared to the rest of the body. The face was elongated, with brown eyes and medium long brown hair that waved to the back of its head.
Its overall appearance was designed after Tetsurō Araki.
Story[]
Past[]
This Titan used to be an Eldian man in the nation of Marley and used to live inside an Eldian internment zone. He would eventually break one of the Marleyan laws, causing him to be arrested by the Marleyan Public Authorities, they transferred him from his internment zone to the island of Paradis. He would then be placed on the wharf, which was built on the docks in the southern parts of the island, and forcefully transformed into a Titan. It would walk all the way north, entering from the breached gate in Shaganshina to Wall Maria.
Battle of Trost District Arc[]
This Titan would be one of many to invade Trost District after it’s gate was breached by the Colossal Titan. After walking throughout the streets for an unknown amount of time, it randomly noticed a group of people from afar, and begin walking towards them. These people were Bertolt Hoover, Reiner Braun, Annie Leonhart and Marco Bott. After Marco overheard a conversation of Reiner and Bertolt, Reiner decided to let Marco being eaten by this Titan, and after successfully convincing Annie to dispose of his ODM Gear, the three left him there to die. This Titan would walk up to the confused and frightened Marco, it grabbed him from the roof and after a bit of helpless struggling from Marco, bit the left side of his body off.
The three murderers watched it happen from afar, but Reiner suffering from a Dissociative mind, became confused and guilt ridden by what he just did. He would then fly up to this Titan and kill it, why saying the words, “this was for Marco”. Marco’s body would then fall onto the ground and slumped up to a building.
The corpse of Marco was found a a few days later during the cleanup operation by his best friend, Jean Kirstein.
Clash of the Titans arc[]
Marco's death is remembered by a mentally troubled Reiner, whilst he and Bertolt were hiding in the forest of giant trees, together with Eren Yeager and Ymir.
War for Paradis arc[]
Around four years later after the incident. The actions committed by this Titan would be retold by Reiner to all of Marco’s comrades, constantly talking about it after being specifically told by Jean to stop, eventually causing Jean to explode into a fit of rage and began punching Reiner.
Trivia[]
- The reason why this Titan resembled the anime director Tetsurō Araki so much, was because he assisted Hajime Isayama with structuring the situation of Marco Bott’s death scene, long before it was even introduced in the manga. Meaning that Tetsurō Araki, literally and figuratively, killed Marco Bott.
