At the turn of the 20th century, Sasai Arasaka built a manufacturing plant in Tokyo. Thanks to his foresight and resilience, the company survived the hardships of the Second World War, only to grow into the world's most successful megacorporation under the leadership of Saburo Arasaka.

The Arasaka Corporation are the main antagonists of the Cyberpunk franchise.

Even in the world of the Cyberpunk universe, where megacorporations control the world with an iron fist, Arasaka stands out due to its overwhelming private army that surpasses most nations. Founded by Sasai Arasaka and headed by the ruthless Saburo Arasaka, Arasaka is known for using unlawful methods and tactics to dominate it's enemies and rivals. Unethical experiments, assassinations, arms trafficking, espionage, nothing is off the table for the Japanese giant.

They are the direct rivals of Militech, the rockerboy Johnny Silverhand, and V, the player character of Cyberpunk 2077.

Sources of Income[]

Arasaka is best known for two things: cutting-edge weapons manufacturing and elite private security services. Across the globe, many of the most powerful individuals, corporations, and governments rely on Arasaka-made arms and armored personnel to protect their assets — and their lives.

What sets Arasaka’s security apart from it's competitors is its high degree of customization. Clients can tailor every detail of their personal protection units, including gender, appearance, age, nationality, dress code, language proficiency, visibility, level of training, and weaponry loadout. Whether a client wants discreet bodyguards in civilian attire or a fully armed escort team in tactical gear, Arasaka can deliver — for the right price.

Arasaka's security services go beyond the private sector, offering police enforcement contracts to cities and nation-states. Unlike their more stoic and militarized counterparts in private security, Arasaka’s officers are trained in interpersonal communication and crowd management as they are required to work with the public more frequently.

While Arasaka originally provided ships and planes only for the Imperial Japanese Navy, their arms industry has grown far and wide over the decades, only being surpassed by Militech. Its weapons catalog spans from conventional firearms, stun batons, and traditional katanas to advanced tech like automated sentry guns, EMP weaponry, and anti-personnel mines. They have even expanded their weapons industry into the cyberware market, producing many popular combat implants such as the Mantis Blades and Gorilla Arms.

Besides their weapons manufacturing, Arasaka also produces a variety of general consumer goods - having embedded itself into the fabric of everyday life. The corporation manufactures everything from automobiles, clothing, prepackaged meals, phones, and computers to fire suppression systems, pharmaceuticals, security cameras, office equipment, and even children's toys.

Last but not least is the Arasaka Bank. Established by Saburo, the Bank has been consistently profitable since its inception by providing high-quality loans and investments to other businesses.

Criminal Activity and Controversies[]

Like most megacorporations, Arasaka has long been shrouded in controversy and corruption. Accusations of blackmail, bribery, extortion, and the deployment of mercenaries for illegal operations have followed the company for decades. These covert missions have ranged from corporate espionage and political sabotage to the brutal suppression of public protests — and even high-profile assassinations and abductions. Arasaka has also maintained deep, profitable ties with powerful criminal syndicates, including the Yakuza, the Triads, and the Tyger Claws, supplying them with weapons and contracting their services as needed.

By the late 1990s, 60% of Japan's politicians were under Arasaka's control. To prevent the corporation from completely taking over the government, many smaller japanese corporations joined forces to combat Arasaka's growing influence, leading to many politicians being arrested. Ever since then, Arasaka's efforts to control the japanese government have stalled.

After the Fourth Corporate War, Arasaka was officially found guilty of the detonation of a thermonuclear device in the Night City Corporate Plaza in 2023, despite Militech being the one actually responsible for the incident. Although the truth would eventually come to light, by then Arasaka’s reputation in America had already been permanently damaged.

Around the 2050s or 2060s, Arasaka launched a clandestine program aimed at retrieving lost data from the ruins of the old Net. The program involved sending specially trained child slaves into the corrupted net, only for most of them to get killed by rogue AIs. The remaining children then attempted to flee from the corporation, resulting in all of them being killed except for Lucy.

In 2077, Arasaka officially announced the Secure Your Soul program - a service that would allow individuals to store a copy of their own consciousness, inside a biochip, through the use of the Soulkiller software. Many people and religious organizations saw the idea of copying a person's "soul" as disturbing, leading to many protests and condemnations.
