The Arcforged are a faction of mechagnomes in World of Warcraft who follow the vision and command of King Mechagon, devoted to mechanically transforming themselves and others—often against their will—in order to “reverse” the Curse of Flesh. Originating from Mechagon Island, the Arcforged represent the most zealous expression of mechagnome ideology: the belief that flesh is a weakness and that true perfection lies in complete mechanization. Under King Mechagon’s rule, this philosophy became not merely a cultural movement but a crusade. The Arcforged sought to “liberate” the mortal races from their organic frailty, replacing flesh and bone with gears and steel, believing they were restoring the world to its intended perfection.

To the Arcforged, the “Curse of Flesh” was a disease, an ancient corruption of the Titan-forged design, and thus something to be cured by any means necessary. Their methods, however, were cruel and coercive. Many mechagnomes were forcibly augmented, stripped of their biological components, and remade into mechanical beings against their will. While a few followed Mechagon’s vision voluntarily, most of the Arcforged were driven by fear, social pressure, or direct subjugation. The process of mechanization was presented as salvation, but for countless victims, it was an erasure of identity and autonomy.

The Rustbolt Rebellion and the Fall of Mechagon[]

After years of internal conflict, rebellion arose in the form of the Rustbolt Resistance, a movement of mechagnomes who rejected Mechagon’s vision and fought to preserve their right to choose their own forms. The Resistance became a symbol of defiance against totalitarian control and enforced transformation. Their struggle against the Arcforged was both a physical and philosophical battle—a fight for freedom of body and mind. The ensuing civil war tore Mechagon society apart. Alliance adventurers eventually joined forces with the Resistance, storming Mechagon City and overthrowing King Mechagon’s rule. In the aftermath, the Arcforged’s power was shattered, and their remaining loyalists scattered across the island. Some fled into hiding, clinging to the remnants of Mechagon’s ideology, while others were dismantled or reprogrammed.

The Arcforged operated as a rigidly stratified society centered in Mechagon City, the technological citadel that served as their seat of power. King Mechagon ruled as both monarch and prophet, commanding a hierarchy of machinists, engineers, and enforcers. Figures such as Head Machinist Sparkflux, Gear Checker Cogstar, and the Scrap King acted as his lieutenants, overseeing different divisions of the city’s vast mechanical infrastructure. Within Arcforged society, rank was tied to the degree of mechanization—those who possessed the most advanced enhancements were regarded as superior beings, while those who retained vestiges of flesh were considered incomplete or defective. Advancement within the faction depended not on merit but on obedience and ideological purity.
