Archbishop Andreus is a supporting antagonist in the 2023 video game Lies of P. Once the kindly Archbishop of Krat, he slowly grew more corrupt and egotistical as his wealth grew. By the time of the Puppet Frenzy, he had mutated into a horrible monster, as well as being fully lost in delusion.
He was voiced by Daniel O'Meara.
Biography[]
When Krat was still a rural town, Andreus was appointed as a priest in St. Frangelico Cathedral. He was admired for his selfless kindness, to the point people said he could make even murderers repent before God and was even St. Frangelico himself, the very founder of the church, reborn. When the Alchemists came to town, thirty years before the events of the game, they offered funding to him and the Cathedral in exchange for territory in Krat. This marked the beginning of the corruption of the now Archbishop.
When the Petrification Disease broke out, Andreus saw it as divine judgement from God and viewed himself as Krat's rescuer. However, he still felt responsible for the state of Krat, not yet fully lost in his madness, so he sought to cooperate with the Alchemists and offered a cure they had developed for the disease to refugees he invited into the Church. In reality, the cure was a failure, and instead tormented the suffering until their death, upon which they mutated into Carcasses. As the Cathedral was swarmed, Andreus realized the Alchemists were responsible for most of Krat's misfortune, seeking revenge.
At some point, a suicidal murderer named Cecile was taken in by Andreus, and she became a Nun at the Cathedral. He had her infiltrate Arche Abbey, the Island of Alchemists, and steal a relic called the Arm of God. He planned to use it to purify Krat, but he was mutated into a Carcass like creature before he could do so. Unwilling to recognize what he had become, Andreus declared that he was the One-Winged Angel that St. Frangelico had encountered long ago, finally losing his mind. As P explored the cathedral, he entered the Archbishop's Altar, where Andreus was located. The two fought, which resulted in the Archbishop's death. As his Ergo was absorbed by Simon Manus, he expressed remorse and finally recognised how corrupt he had become.
