| ~ Archie to the passengers on the bus. |
Archie Mullin is the main antagonist of the 9-1-1 Season 8 episode "Invisible".
He is a man who, after a string of bad luck, decides to take a bus hostage so that he doesn't feel "invisible" anymore.
He was portrayed by Kevin L. Johnson.
Biography[]
Archie is first seen as he gets fired from his job at the Cluck'n'Fluck fast food restaurant, which is particularly unfortunate since he is trying to finance his wedding to his fiancée, Vicki, and help his cousin, Alex, who lives with them, pay for an apartment.
Upon returning home, Archie begins to tidy up his apartment but ends up getting stuck under a Murphy bed. When Vicki and Alex come in and start having intimate relations on top of it, Archie is forced to call 911 for help. The 118 arrive, but Vicki and Alex wrongly accuse him of spying on them, hypocritically claiming he doesn’t trust them.
The following day, Vicki throws Archie out, and he is left living in his car. When he gets a flat tire, he attempts to retrieve a spare nut that falls under a truck, only to be trapped when the driver moves the vehicle. Once again, he is rescued by the 118, but only one of them, Hen, recognizes him. He confides in her about his feelings of invisibility, and she shares her own experience of being overlooked, inadvertently revealing that it’s her birthday.
That night, while Archie sleeps in his car, it gets towed, but he escapes just in time. Holding onto his few possessions, he is bumped into by three guys rushing to catch a bus, causing him to drop an urn. Frustrated and desperate, Archie pulls out a large knife and boards the bus, taking the passengers and driver hostage while expressing his belief that he deserves a place in the world.
The LAPD, led by Athena, pursue the bus and deploy a spike strip. In the chaos, Archie accidentally stabs a passenger who was trying to talk him down. As the bus slows down, the 118 arrive, and Hen is stunned to realize that Archie is the hostage-taker. She persuades the police to let her approach the bus.
Onboard, Hen manages to convince Archie to let the passengers and driver go. As she tries to coax him off the bus with her, she admits that her earlier words were meant for her own struggles. Despite this, Archie feels that he’s been saved by her each time, making him feel acknowledged. Ultimately, Hen persuades him to drop the knife, and they exit the bus together.
Outside, Archie reaches into his pocket for a keychain to give to Hen, but the SWAT team misinterprets his actions as a threat and opens fire. Hen pushes both of them out of harm's way, but Archie is then arrested by Athena.
It’s implied that Archie may be sent to prison or a psychiatric facility for his actions.
