“ | Let me explain what you are up against, 'friend'. You see the Archons were made by my son, Erra. Hybrid abominations of the Old War... raised from the battlefields where Sentient and Warframe fell. | „ |
~ Hunhow telling the Drifter about the Archons. |
Nira, Boreal and Amar, collectively known as the Archons, are supporting antagonists in the MMO third person shooter Warframe.
They are Warframe-Sentient hybrids created by Erra in the Old War, deployed during the rule of Narmer to crush all opposition to Ballas's rule. Following the fall of Narmer, the Archons were resurrected by its remnants and work to rebuild the empire under the leadership of a fourth Archon: Pazuul.
Appearance[]
The Archons are constructed from Warframes amalgamated with Sentient constructs. Each Warframe is missing their heads, replaced with that of a Sentient and feature a large crystal that functions as their heart.
- Nira is a Mag Prime Warframe with a snake coiling itself around her head. Her crystal has a yellow glow and she wields a deadly whip named Verdilac.
- Boreal is a Loki Prime Warframe with the head of an Owl. His crystal glows blue and he wields a thunderous trident named Korumm.
- Amar is a Rhino Prime Warframe with the head of a Wolf, which itself has two arms. His crystal is orange and he wields two fiery daggers named Nepheri.
Biography[]
After the Sentients gained complete control over the Origin System, they established a new empire under the name Narmer and crowned Ballas as ruler of the system. His second-in-command Erra, son of Hunhow, unleashed the Archons to serve as the enforcers of his will, attacking anyone not under the hypnotic control of a Narmer Veil.
Years after Narmer took control, a lone Drifter took it upon himself to undermine their dominance, infiltrating an outpost on Earth and freeing several captive Ostron villagers. Unfortunately they were too late to save an Ostron in the inner sanctum from falling victim to a Narmer Veil, who promptly called out their location. The Drifter fought off the Narmer soldiers, but the mask on the Ostron's face exploded when they tried to take it off him, followed by the arrival of Archon Nira. The Drifter just barely escaped with their life.
Realizing that they cannot fight the Archons with the equipment they have, the Drifter made the risky decision to travel to Uranus and descend into the tomb of an old enemy, where they were captured by the Stalker and brought before Hunhow himself. The Drifter, actually an adult Tenno without a Warframe, wanted to hunt the Archons down for their core crystals, hoping they could restore a dying Natah. He laughed off their desire to hunt them even after he explained the threat they pose as suicidal. When the Drifter pointed that doing nothing would just allow Ballas and Erra to raise Natah themselves and continue to abuse her for their own gain, Hunhow changed his mind and agreed to help, giving them a bow made from Sentient bones that is strong enough to pierce the hide of an Archon.
After some training from Hunhow, the Drifter set off to hunt the Archons one by one with the Stalker helping out should things go awry. Though the fights were far from easy, two of them fell and got their crystals ripped out of their heads, killing them for good. With their energy the Drifter could partially rejuvinate the nearly-dead Natah, whom they had kept safe in the back of their base. This gave her enough strength to move again, her rage and confusion immediately causing her to attack the Drifter and leave to kill Ballas for that he has done to her.
Whichever Archon that hasn't been defeated appears to guard Ballas's throne room on Praghasa. Both the Drifter and Erra, who realized that Ballas intends to wipe out humans and Sentients alike by having Praghasa consume the Sun to propel himself towards the Tau System, recognize that she cannot resist being brainwashed by Ballas again without her full strength. Erra sacrificed himself to give the Drifter an opening to advance forward as the Sun burns through Praghasa's shell, allowing them to fight the last Archon and obtain their crystal. They rushed forwards to heal Natah before Ballas can get his hands on her, but he interrupted them and absorbed the crystal himself. Ultimately Natah managed to take the energy and Ballas's life with a kiss after he got one of his own Narmer Veils shoved into his face, finally restoring her beyond her old strength.
Quotes[]
“ | You know Nira. The eldest. Her whip cracks with an Eidolon's wrath... bone-shattered shockwaves unleached by every unfurling of its tip. Her whip is more than pain; it is protection. And more... for if you stand in awe of its spiral, the great thunderclap that follows will knock you senseless. Though... she may be diminished somewhat by this exertion. And her gaze. To meet her gaze is certain death. Only by turning away would you hope to survive. | „ |
~ Hunhow describing Nira. |
“ | The Owl is named Boreal. His trident strikes from a great distance... deadly, chaotic arcs. One might avoid them with a keen eye if you can anticipate their faint threads before. Even the very ground you walk upon will become Boreal's weapon. He may have a weakness at this moment, but it is not obvious. Worst of all is the paralyzing screech. Terrifying, yet this moment is your only chance to close in, unseen, and strike. | „ |
~ Hunhow describing Boreal. |
“ | Amar. He will gnash his fang-blade, filling the air with deadly coils of flame. Survive the flame, and you might see frenzy. A relentless fury of slashes. Only the greatest of force will subdue him in this. Should he howl, the pack will appear. Mirrors of himself, meant to confuse. Only the true eye can distinguish the alpha among them. | „ |
