Ares was the god of War in Saint Seiya series. He is the cruelest god. He fought with Athena with his warriors (the Bersekers) against the Saints and after a long battle, the bronze, silver and gold Saints were not able to defeat Ares forces, forcing the gold Saints to use the 12 Libra Weapons. So, these weapons are more powerful than all the Saints with Athena always refusing to use them.
Ares was then defeated and hid in the Hades Empire and Hades fought against Athena later.
