The Aretas Cartel are the main antagonists of the 2020 buddy cop action comedy film Bad Boys for Life, the third installment of the Bad Boys franchise.
The Aretas Cartel is a drug trafficking organization. It was founded by Benito Aretas, who died in prison in 1989. His wife, Isabel Aretas, escaped from prison decades later and revived the cartel with the help of her son, Armando Aretas, who is also the biological son of Mike Lowrey, one of the protagonists. The Aretas Cartel is the main antagonist of the film, as they seek revenge on those who were involved in Benito's downfall.
Biography[]
The Cartel enters the movie during Isabel’s jailbreak from prison. As she escapes via ambulance, the vehicle is then ambushed by a group lead by Armando. As Armando conducts his assassinations on those involved in Isabel’s arrest he unearths millions of dollars Benito left behind. Then it is discovered that the whole thing was a set up and the group that was with Armando watched him execute those behind the set up.
Armando then hires one of the witnesses present during the set up named Lorenzo Rodriguez also known as Zway-Lo into the group.
With all targets except Mike dead, he investigates Lorenzo as he was celebrating his birthday during a club night which lead to a chase through the streets of Miami. Which then leads to his death as Armando attempts to kill Mike but Lorenzo was getting in the way to do so.
As AMMO along with Mike and Marcus attempt to reach Isabel in Mexico City, they were the squads attempting to kill Mike on the scene. The building where Isabel was located then erupts into a shootout with Cartel members dying on sight and then leading to the death of Isabel and later the arrest of Armando. It is unknown what happened to those still associated with the group but it has been defunct since the downfall of the Aretas Family.
