~ Moldovan complaining to Rollins over drinks. |
Sergeant Ari Moldovan, also known as The Good Girl Rapist, is the main antagonist of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Hunt, Trap, Rape, Release". He was a Bronx SVU detective and a serial rapist of women across New York City, framing other suspects for his crimes.
He was portrayed by Rudy Mungaray.
Biography[]
It's unknown when Moldovan started raping women, but it appeared to be because he wanted to take his rage over his job out on them. Moldovan also had severe depression and alcoholism. Originally not brazen enough to make his own M.O., he imitated an incarcerated serial rapist, Joey Nuccio. Once Nuccio was caught, he made Nuccio confess to Moldovan's rapes as well with the promise of being imprisoned close to his mother while she was dying. Eventually, Moldovan became the "Good Girl Rapist" once he solidified his M.O. He broke into women's apartments through their windows, wore a ski mask, bound them with duct tape, specifically their hands to keep folded as if in prayer, and them he raped them. He threatened to kill them if they called the cops once releasing them, but the threat rarely if ever worked, and he was tied to six rapes in his own district without being identified.
When Moldovan raped Rosie Zaran in Manhattan, he had to work with Manhattan SVU. He was extremely territorial with jurisdictions, and he failed to hide his drinking, which blatantly impacted his job performance. But once a suspect named Daniel Gonzalez was identified, Moldovan went further and shot Gonzalez twice in an attempt to kill him. Moldovan wanted to frame him as a patsy and even lied he was armed. When Rosie didn't pick him out of a lineup, the detectives found out Moldovan went to Rosie and tried to coerce her false ID afterwards. Moldovan's alibi fell through when it was revealed the haunts he usually drank out and his failed stakeouts on his cases corresponded with the rapes he was guilty of. Nuccio also admitted he didn't rape the two women Moldovan raped to frame him. Detective Amanda Rollins hoped to get Moldovan to confess while he was out drinking again, but he saw through the ruse and held her at gunpoint. He released her eventually, but Captain Olivia Benson also had to talk him down from shooting himself before he was arrested. Moldovan would later be placed on suicide watch and eventually imprisoned and stripped of his badge.
